Has anyone heard an update from Atlas about when their HO SLSF U30b's will chug chug into our railroad world? Ken
Their web site is now saying estimated ship date June 2013: http://www.atlasrr.com/ordership.htm but that is from the other side of the pond. Maybe we'll get them by Christmas.
Don't know if anyone noticed but delivery has been pushed to July. They do finally have a picture of a real unit on the website though so maybe. Take a guess at what important detail they left off? http://www.atlasrr.com/Images/HOLocomotives/HOU30B/1110/10001154_TQ.jpg Ethan
I guess it looks like we'll need DW 106 beacon, a single bulb gyro light (it comes with a dual), and a drill and bits. I guess the good news is the dual nose light probably has 2 small bulbs in it that can be recycled into use for the gyro and beacon. Other than that it looks like a great unit. Ethan
The Atlas website's shipping report has been updated .... If I understand it correctly, it says the U30b's shipped (from China?) on June 29. I'm assuming this means a container was placed on a ship and set sail? I'm also assuming that the locos will go to some distribution center (if not Atlas in New Jersey) before being sent to hobby shops and suppliers. The last box to be filled in on their chart is the "Atlas Shipping Date." Whatever it means, it sounds like good news. It's been a long time since those locomotives were first announced. Yippee! http://www.atlasrr.com/ordership.htm http://www.atlasrr.com/HOLoco/hou30b1.htm#.UdrhdBacN0s |-|
Good news is there is other stuff in the container with it. Bad news it shows that stuff that was shipped in April and May still hasn't been sent out by Atlas. Looking at other stuff normal time is about 1-2 months after the container leaves atlas ships it out. We'll see what happens. Ethan
Container shipping date could mean a couple of different things: 1) It was loaded and shipped from the factory; it may still need to be loaded on a ship. 2) The container was loaded on a ship and left the port. I estimate that once the container is loaded on a ship, you can add about 14 days transit across the ocean to the west coast. One day for unloading from the ship. If they have to go to Atlas in New Jersey via rail before shipping to dealers, add another 1 - 1 1/2 weeks. Then unloading at Atlas and shipping to dealers 1 week. Figure on late August at your dealer.
To All: Below is copied a post from me announcing the U30b on 10/05/2010 in the new products section. It clearly explains that the model will have a dual headlight. In working with Atlas they stated right up front that they would not make a mold for the single gyro-light. I was given a choice of the dual mode casting or the blank front. I felt it only right to consult other Frisco modelers (in this case Rick McClellan and Nick Molo) and they both agreed with me to go with the dual headlight option as it would come with bulbs installed. Bottom line, were given a choice by Atlas. Having said that what does disturb me at this point is that if the model photo is correct Atlas has painted ALL of the grill areas back. This will stick out like a sore thumb next to previous offerings such as their U30b unless all of the models are weathered by the modeler. I hope this isn't the case. Bob Hoover FriscoFriend *********************************************************************************************************** Re: New Product Announcements (HO) I am pleased to announce that Atlas will be producing the U30b in HO scale in 4 road numbers in both Silver (decoder ready) and Gold (QSI Decoder Equipped). The official announcement will be made in the next several days and delivery is expected in June 2011. The prices will be announced at that time. The road #'s and item #'s are as follows: Road # Silver #846 10 001 154 #848 10 001 155 #851 10 001 156 #853 10 001 157 Road # Gold #846 10 001 176 #848 10 001 177 #851 10 001 178 #853 10 001 179 Please note that one of the road #'s is 846 which was delivered from GE with the special "XR Series" logo on the sides below the cab signifying the first unit delivered in the companies new Xtra Reliable Series. The model will also carry this logo! As a matter of background, I started working with Atlas on this project almost 2 years ago and specifically asked that the 846 be produced in the as-delivered scheme. Both Rick McClellan and Nick Molo helped me by providing high quality prortype photos and opinions. I want everyone to know right up front that there will be a minor feature that is not 100% prototypical on this model. Early on Atlas informed me that they only had two nose castings, one with a dual horizontal headlight and one with a blank nose and I would need to choose between them as they would not produce a new casting that was only used by one road. I felt that was very understandable. Since the lights on the Gold version will come installed and wired, after consulting with both Rick and Nick, it was unanimously agreed that replacing this with the correct single lens casting should merely involve sanding down the dual lens face and replacing it with the correct one. This should be a welcome addition to any modern era modelers roster and hopefully XR #846 wil be considered as a valuable shelf model for any Frisco modeler regardless of what era they model. To All: Atlas is now showing a container shipping report for 8/6/13. It looks like they will receive the container one week from that date. The good thing is that the report shows all of the U30b's in the container. The bad news, depending on how one looks at it, is that half of them show being SOLD OUT to dealers upon arrival. The only ones that are showing as having LIMITED availability are Silver Series (non-sound) #'s 848 and 851 and Gold Series (sound) #846 and #853. This means that if you are playing a wait and see game you might want to reconsider.
I preordered a gold 846 but i didnt order before the cut off, i ordered back in July of 2011 from wholesale trains. I should be safe to still get mine I guess? Ethan
I have a question on the prototype. I see that the GE builders plate was only on the F/S of the Atlas SLSF 870 model, and also on the prototype pics that I can make out. Did GE only put the plate on the F/S, or perhaps the plate somehow fell off, and was rescued by an admiring fan of the Frisco or the B30-7? Or is this typical of GE?
I see the current issue of Model Railroader (September, 2013), which I received today, includes a very nice Atlas ad proclaiming the new release Atlas GE U30b's are "arriving NOW at your local hobby shop!". The ad includes small pics of SLSF 846 (the "XR") and SLSF 853. I take this as a good sign we will see them soon! Years ago, it seems, I ordered one 846 and one 853. Ken
I pre-ordered mine on January 9, 2011. Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to model railroading. Loss of memory helps, too. If I had not been paying attention to this thread I would have been really suprised when they arrived
Any new word on these yet? This pre-order stuff is getting old. William Jackson I also have a couple of bay window's ordered from Horizon, wow? Long Time
To All: Atlas has updated their website saying that the long awaited U30b's will be shipping begin shipping to hobby shops today, August 16th!
