I don't have much of a layout, so I don't run much, but I do have an interesting train up and running right now - a long freight with a three unit locomotive consist: GP7 SLSF 502 in the lead, Katy RS-3 MKT 1551 as the middle unit, and GP7 SLSF 500 as the trailing unit.

Don't know if anything like that ever ran together, but it does look pretty neat! All Atlas - all sweet runners!

Know I am late to the dance on a lot of matters, a little slow, but got my Geep decals today from Louis Griesemer and this is a squared away fellow who seems to show it in all his work. Decals are excellent and for a good price not to be overlooked! I have Thanked him and wish to Thank everyone who led me to him in my decal search! Might be a decent year!

I'd sure like to jump on this but I have not received said email from Atlas...nor can my buddy, an Atlas dealer, find it either...or any mention of any sale. How about a link?

Again I raise the issue of the fuel/water tank on a s/g-equipped GP-7 like 502 versus the tank on units not so equipped. I wasn't any longer around to see what happened when they started removing the steam generators from the GP-7's, and whether the larger tanks were replaced by a smaller single-purpose tank. Besides, at the end of the day, the only thing that really matters is whether or not you are satisfied with what you have.

I've seen the email announcement from Atlas, and since I'm not in the market for one right now (I have 3 grand worth of new unfinished cabinets awaiting installation in my kitchen, so the train budget is shot to thunder), you won't have to worry about competing with me for one (LOL).

I grabbed an Atlas GP7 B&Y #500 from eBay this week. It is in pretty good condition with one or two small scuffs. I am wondering if it is worth much more than the $70 that I paid for it. Any experience with these and how much they usually go for in an auction?

You got a good deal in my opinion. I believe these have gone for as much as $100 or more in the recent past.

Congratulations as I keep a pretty good look on HO Frisco in eBay and missed it. We'll say I've paid more and would do so again. I like it and it's flaws can be corrected by the picky. The motor will run longer than body will last, reminds me of a old Dodge. Yes as the fellow says who always want to offer a kidney, they can usually get more. Ones I have found are with folks who don't know what they have, As a rule I always ask if they will keep an eye for others, folks have then been known to bring the other one out just to make a sale. The Genesis GP 7 is beautiful, if it ever shows up in my lifetime marked as Frisco is another thing. I'd put money on the Atlas still running however if that day comes with little to no maintenance. Good Buy! Again Congratulations!

Yes, you got a good deal. These were a limited run by Atlas, at a bargain price when new (about what you paid), sold out very quickly, and have not been run again. They are very well done, and run like a Swiss watch. As a result, when one appears on eBay or HOInterchange, etc, they go fast and often get bid up to three figures. Well done. If you want to resell it, go for it!

The Atlas Frisco GP7 only has two problems to my eye:
o First, it is in the as-delivered scheme, which didn't last long on the Frisco - the major change was to relocate the horns to the cab roof (they also used a wide variety of horn types)
o Second, Atlas numbered them wrong. GP7's SLSF 500-524 were an earlier phase, and did not have the small platform behind the cab on the fireman's side, like the model does. Instead the right side cab back was identical to the left side cab back. Atlas should have numbered them SLSF 525 or higher.

I have both 500 and 502 - they are so well done and good looking I have chosen to overlook the error on the GP7 phase. Maybe some day I'll renumber them ..... nah!

I'm doing a short article for The Meteor on what I did to upgrade these two Atlas Frisco GP7's. It will be short, because you don't need to do much! (Horns, speed recorder, cab shades, brake hoses, couplers, and a few accents to get one that looks like they did in the early 1950's)

If Atlas is smart (they are), they will re-run these with the correct number this time, and again will enjoy fast sales.

It is my understanding that if Atlas wants to re-run GP7's they would first have to redo the molds as the current ones are worn out. Since Athearn has chosen to do a major Geep program under the Genesis label this of course may affect Atlas's thinking.

As usual, I'm late to the party! However, I got real lucky a number of years ago and bought a number of the original highhood Atlas GP7's, most w/o dynamics, so I got real lucky. However, they are all undecorated, so I will need the decals. I will give Tom a try, but I would like to know if decals are also available for the BY units from another source?

Yep, that could be a problem! It's too bad, because the Athearn Genesis GP7/GP9 introduction has been a rough one - problems with the body shell and the motors. Also, I think Atlas would be more likely to offer the b/y Frisco GP7 than Athearn. We'll see - the Frisco certainly had enough GP7's to warrant somebody doing more of them!

I think Bachmann is also offering a GP-7.
