Was looking on the Athearn site and was wondering the GP 40 are listed at 269 something and the SD 45 at 180 something. Anybody know why one is a lot less than the other? Am thinking both is DCC and Sound.

Bill, the GP40-2 models are Genesis models with details that are supposed to be correct down to the specific locomotive number. The SD45s are part of the Athearn RTR line with less attention to detail. Both of the prices that you state should be with Tsunami sound. I got very good price quotes from the Zuckers at Spring Creek Model Trains.

Thanks, I thought their had to be a good reason, they must have a better market for the RTR on some models. Too bad, I like the detail. I have the 40's ordered, I will think about the 45's.
I have placed one order with Spring Creek, they seem to be real nice.

Well I pre ordered te SD-45's and one of the Sperry Cars from Spring Creek. I suppose Locsound makes the caterpillar decoder. Keith any suggestions on that thought?

Loksound has a sound file with the Caterpillar V8 for the GE 44 Ton Switcher.
