20191102_224056.jpg Received my three GP7s yesterday afternoon. They look great, though I can't test 20191102_221352.jpg

their performance yet. That packaging protected them well, its a challenge to remove them, though.

  2. Ohhh my! The wallet may lose weight. Those look amazing .

They run very smoothly and the SoundTraxx Tsunami 2 decoders are phenomenal when the DDE is properly set; the prime mover will notch up on a throttle increase, but as the model gets up to speed will notch back. If the unit encounters a load like climbing a grade, the prime mover will notch up automatically. When the grade is topped, it will notch back down, possibly all the way to idle. The dynamic brakes can be set up to slow the train down, but will not bring it to a stop. The LED lights are nice and bright but have a nice warm color that incandescent bulbs have.

Anyone needing advice on programming, ask a question by starting a new thread on the Decoders & Programming sub-forum.

I also received #579 in the mail Saturday My question is what is the nub on the fireman side of the cab roof? The photo above for #579 appears to be a horn.
I have the base but no horn. Does not appear that it broke off.

I got my 4 engines yesterday. I will agree that the yellow looks a bit dull, but hey theys be Friscos!

Hmm, I guess my old MRC/Troller rig won't work on these? Time to upgrade.

Mine all lashed up togather, one is a touch faster than the other, but look real nice togather.

My two showed up today. They look great to me. Haven't run them yet, but will soon. One is the QA&P version.

Heard from an old friend last night which worked for the Frisco at FS from about '71 on into the BN era (then went to the KCS). He had received his one Athearn Frisco GP7. He's totally disappointed with the yellow. (Thinks its too dark.) He sent me a pic via phone, and again, I thought the picture looks pretty good for a model supposedly painted in the original scheme.

Said friend is supposed to drop by the house today with it, so this will be the first time I will be able to actually see one of these models with me own eyes. He's talking about selling it.

I'm anxious to see one of these "controversial" models!

  11. I think the yellow is good for factory fresh paint as on real units but sun/uv and weathering after a time in service likely faded the yellow to a lighter shade.

Not fretting over it as we that bought them have to live with them as they are. I'm fine with my 2 as is.

It's probably a hair darker than ideal, but it's still pretty good. My only regret is that I didn't order three!!! I should have gotten one with a steam generator along with the two I got.

I think said friend would offer me his #594 at a bargain price. I just might have to take him up on it.

Besides, I've contrived a scheme whereby my Kansas City & Gulf has a real good working relationship with the Frisco out of KC... and it just might be that the Frisco can help the KC&G cope with its current power shortage. ;)

One of mine finally arrived from Spring Creek. Here it is posed right out of the box on the Crawford and Cherokee's Weir City Wye Track.

Again, in photos, to my eyes the yellow looks very close to "as delivered". (Once the Lt. bars were added.)

I called the bluff by my friend: Offered to purchase his #594. He began to make a like crawdad: Threw his claws up and started back-peddling. :ROFLMAO:

I figured he was just blowing off steam and venting because of his disappointment... but you never know! Ah well, a half price Genesis Frisco GP7 was too good to be true, anyway.

  16. It seems as your friend may not be as dissapointed as he claimed to be.

Well one could always go with an undec shell if available or strip and redo what they got to get one that is "correct" but that would seem ludicrous, at least to me.

But thats an option to be considered by the unhappy or dissapointed ones if so inclined.

My two are good and staying as is since they look to me as being the factory fresh paint as when received from EMD.

Ah well, once his frustrations abated some, the $$ required to take it off his hands was a tad too rich for my blood at this point.

I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat had the half price frustration-induced comment proved to be the case.

I know there's coming a time that I'll want a Frisco GP7 to run, so I've gone ahead and ordered the Frisco striped GP7 set from Mask Island to take a look at font shape/size/etc. I figure the stripes can be used regardless. Haven't decided what platform to use (Atlas Gold GP7? Older P2K? Etc?)

    All fer now!

  18. Well from my experiences with older P2K GPs I have as 3 Rock island units I would take Atlas gold units as my first choice if were to do it again. My only other RI units at this time are a Bachman RS3 (sound) and Lifelike BL2. The BL2 is on an athearn frame/drive with great carbody detail that is going to be getting a dcc/sound upgrade in the near future and most likley the P2K Rock GPs concurrent with the BL2 upgrade. No issues with the RS3.

Have a P2K RI FA/FB dcc set and not so thrilled with them either. Bargain basement deal from a buddy that are sort of out of sight " in the basement " (under the layout) for the time being and they may just become stripped (just keep lights with lighting only decoder in the FA unit for back up moves or to be pushed as lead units by trailing powered units - FA/FB/RS3/BL2 lashup) dummy trailing units or sitting in the weeds on the deadline at the Rock Islands' El Reno, Ok shops until sometime when they get rebuilt (with emd prime movers with sound decoders) or sold for scrap.

Currently replacing my older digitrax decoders with TCS decoders/wowsound and some bachmanns with NCE decoders- mainly my ATSF and NYC FT sets.

The photos on this page look great. My three don't have a yellow that's anywhere near those. I'm going to contact HorizonHobby.

    Karl:

All the Atlas Gold engines I have are good engines. I have the following Atlas Gold engines w/Loksound:

    * Two undec Atlas Gold GP7's that are earmarked to become KC&G.

    * Two undec Atlas Gold RS-1's likewise to become KC&G.

    * Two Atlas Gold Undec S-2's w/horizontal shutters for the KC&G.

    * Two undec Atlas Gold S-2's w/vertical shutters: One will become a KCT unit, and the other possibly a Frisco.

I also have an early Atlas Gold HH660 that has factory installed QSI sound. This example of QSI sound is pretty good, so I'll likely keep the QSI in it. OH, and yes, it too, will become a KC&G engine!

    Dinsdale:

    Well that sucks.
