I thought I had heard that excursions were in the making for the Amory (MS) Railroad Festival this weekend. I searched their website (http://amoryrailroadfestival.com/index.html) and couldn't find anything about it. I'm just wondering if anyone has any info as to whether there will be excursions or not. It sure would be nice to have excursions on the Mississippian Railway again. Or on the BNSF...well...I can dream, can't I?

No replies so far but I have to make one last attempt.

Has anyone heard whether or not the Amory (MS) Railroad Festival will have excursions this weekend? Surely someone on here knows. If so, PLEASE reply.

    Brandon,

From the information posted on the festival web site there is no mention of any railroad excursion at or during the festival.

There are several contact names, positions and phone numbers listed on the web site you posted. I recommend you give one of them a call.

They would have the local information on the festival. Also, they should be able to lead you to further contacts if there are related events like an excursion sponsored by other parties not associated with the festival.

If you believe they may be involved in an excursion, you might also want to contact the Mississippian Railway Cooperative directly at (662) 256-3544.

Be sure to update this site as you find out more information.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Brandon,

If you or others attend the festival or contact the railroad, it would be great if we could get an update on Frisco caboose SLSF 1108.

This is one of the Former Santa Fe cabooses acquired by the Frisco for local service. It was last reported on the Mississippian Railway in May of 1997. At that time it was painted blue/gray from the windows up and white below the windows and on the ends. It was lettered "Mississippian" and numbered MISS 103.

Current updated information including a specific location, photographs, details of its use and condition would be greatly appreciated.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

If there were excursions, everyone I asked was wrong. Too bad. As for the Santa Fe/Frisco/Mississippian blue caboose, I don't recall seeing one over there but I'll look the next time I get over that way. There is or at least was a green BN caboose behind the hospital on the Mississippian RR which appeared to have not been moved from at least June of last year until the last time I was over there which was about a month ago. That's all I know.

Regarding excursion at the Amory Railroad Festival, they are no more.

My former group, the Magnolia State Railway operated the last excursions in 1985, with Engine #77. When approached recently, Larry Homan, a Fulton businessman, and operator of the railroad, said they could not allow any excursion operation on the Mississippian.

Trust me, there's more to this story. Homan knows zero about operating a railroad, and takes his directions from another party. As for the interest in the Mississippian and BN cabooses, they have been moved out of sight somewhere. In short the Mississippian is no longer a railfan friendly operation. It could have been a great opportunity for Northeast Mississippi tourism.

The festival has turned into a glorified flea market and carnival, with very little railroad association. Sorry to report the dismal news.
