Amory, MS Coal Chute

    Note the vertical cylinder "sand tower" on the corner of the tower in the second photo. I believe that the Chaffee coal chute also had its sand tower set up this way.

    When I photographed this, the sand tower was still in use.

    Robert, I keep meaning to ask the approximate time frame when you took these photos. Judging by the hoppers in the second picture, it was well beyond the demise of steam locomotion on the Frisco.

    I figured that the Frisco had pretty well demolished any and all obsolete steam-era servicing items not long after 1952, such as the fate that met the Chaffee chute:

    It sounds as if the sand tower on the Amory coal chute gave it a new lease on life.

    Chris, I made the photos at Amory, Chaffee, and Pott's Camp between 1967 and 1970. I think the Pott's Camp coal chute was demolished in the mid to late 1980's, but I'm not positive.

    Potts Camp Coal Chute was demolished in Spring of 1977.
