I love my AMB laser cut wood kit. I'm building the 1922 version and I wonder what color the ladders and handrails were? Yellow? 1922 seems too early for yellow safety colors. How about the wooden roof walks? I painted mine boxcar red to match the body. This is a fun kit to build.
Thank you. That was my first guess but I like to be sure. How about the interior wall color? Grey, green or maybe I should leave it in natural wood.
I had some indication that many of them were just painted with the same boxcar red color on the handrails, grabs and ladders as they used on the carbody and roof, pre-yellow grabs, etc. Am I mistaken? I have two of them painted all BCR. Ken
From the information I have always read, Karl is correct, handrails, grabs, ect where black while the carbody was boxcar red. I believe this scheme lasted until the late 40's probably about the same time they switched to the simplified Frisco herald. This would have been close to the end of steam, or as Don refers to it, the End of the Innocents! Brad
Jim, I'll chime in with my 2 bits worth, from a previous post: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?3279-Another-question-about-color&p=21691#post21691 "End of the Innocents." I am going to have to remember that. Best Regards,
Where is Don Wirth? I think he told me a long time ago that grabs, handrails, etc were black until they were mandated yellow in the late 1940s or early 1950s.
I finally found some screws to attach the Proto trucks to my caboose. Number 3 machine screws from Ace Hardware. After I decal it I'll post some pics.
Interior colors on 876. Walls were a caramel color. Roof was a light green. In these photos the roof has new wood, which we haven't painted yet.
