Roger, I remember it well. Sitting at the Webster Groves depot watching all those o/w diesels passing by. In the blink of an eye they where patched out with black BN letters. Another blink, they where gone, painted black/green. Still blinking, now seeing pumpkin orange. Very sad indeed!
Sad, but on a lighter note, November 21st is the great Stan Musial's Birthday. Which ought to be a Missouri State holiday. We ought to remember the date with those two anniversaries. Tom G.
I was sent to supervise a Tie gang working the St. Joe Sub. All the slang term's were different and I had a rough time. BN employed women so I put them on the spike cart, "I didn't have any trouble with the men keeping up" they wanted to talk with the woman. As a matter of fact, when that gang ended their program, I told them I would buy the Beer, what a mistake, They got drunk, ran their off road four wheel trucks through a farmers field, then had a mud fest, several tried to see if they could drive through the mud hole , it was a mess. When the sun went down, the guy's throwed the women into the mud hole. The Farmer didn't care to my dismay and a bonous, "I didn't get fired" What a difference 40 years makes" In today's time the law suit's would fly. One day in 1981
