I have a few Athearn Genesis and RTR versions of this car. The RTR version has Black underframe and White roof, SL-SF 600172. The Genesis has Silver roof and Beige colored underframe, SL-SF 600023. Anyone know which is correct? I would thing the Genesis was correct but maybe both are for the number series they represent?
    Any info is appreciated.

    Tom -
I have only a few pics of these cars. Some observations:

o Some of the "600xxx's" appear to be beige in color, some appear to have been a lighter beige in color
o Almost all of them are filthy as pictured
o All have a beige, or light beige, underframe, no black underframe in sight!
o None of my pics show a good view of the roof, so I can't tell if they were white or silver (galvanized metal). I'd bet on silver - why paint the roof white? Galvanized roofs were used for corrosion resistance, and were hard to paint successfully, so they often were left in the "silver" color.
o See the attached pic, SLSF 600056, the only real clean looking one I have - this is in the beige color. Looks like a builder's print. Several others, though filthy as I noted above, appear to have been a much lighter beige. Don't know where I got this pic.

Turns out Model Masters "light Ivory" is a dead ringer for the Beige color put on Athearns Frisco beer cars. I went out and pulled duplicate numbers from service. Working on some simple fixes, that require no masking for renumbering of same.

Here's a pic of SLSF 600059. See the lighter beige color, and note also my comment about many of these cars being filthy!

    A few progress photos
I found a couple duplicate numbers one in the box still, another on the layout so I decided to renumber them.
First I put a layer of clear gloss where the renumbering would be on the sides and ends of the cars.
Then I took a piece of scrap decal paper and sprayed the MM Light Ivory on it, made sure to get 2 good coats on it. (looks like the color correction kinda scewed it to me)
I then used decal pieces to cover up the factory numbers and applied the changed numbers. One on the layout was already weathered and it seems to go along with many pictures showing these car numbers as being reapplied, these cars seemed to get really grimmy, almost obscuring the factory number beyond recognition.
Ken Wulfert has the only clean photo of one of these I have seen yet, certainly can't find one on the internet.
The 600023 is a Genesis car Beige underframe and Silver roof. (factory)
The 600055 is a heavily weathered RTR car with cut bars added. Didn't paint the roof Silver on this as it is all weathered and rusted anyway.
The 600037 is a new RTR car with the under frame painted Beige and the roof painted Silver (the roof popped out with little effort) and cut bars added.
I will post pictures of the clean cars, soon to be weathered, as I get some more weathering done.
    Thanks for looking.

Man, that 600 055 is rock'n. Very nice work. That weathering makes the model. You could work in Hollywood making miniatures for movies or something.

Thanks guys, I always appreciate the comments.
Had a couple hours to work on the other two cars today. I really enjoy these weathering powders. The 600023 Graffiti decals are still drying. Trying a new decal setting solution "Humbrol Decalfix" says dont mess with it for at least 6-8 hrs, has a definable Ammonia scent. I will let you know how it turns out. Now to clean the wheels and put these things to work.

Love that rust. I like the graffiti as well although some folks refuse to model it. I don't know why because it's a part of modern prototype railroading.

Tom, very nice. You must give a tutorial on the how-to.
