To take the paint off I would recomend you use Isopropyl Alcohol 91%. Let the model soak until the paint is lose and then use a tooth brush. Isopropyl Alcohol should not damage the plastic but try it on a small spot first to make sure. I have used it for several years with good results and no damage.

ATSF Red is a good match for paint. The main thing is to stay with what ever red you use. For Silver I use what ever I have on hand. For the yellow I use Reefer Yellow.

Paint the car red and then mask it off and paint the simulated corrugation silver. Be sure to let the paint dry between coats of paint. It might take two or three days. Some paint the bottom skirting marron, but I don't.

Paint the engine red and then mask it off and paint the yellow.

Microscale Decals makes a Texas Special set for E-units in HO scale and I would assume in N scale also. Several decal company's make lettering for the passenger cars.

Keep in mine that I model in HO scale so paint textures and hues might be different in N scale.
