After receiving my Tangent 86' high cube boxcars, I started a search for my photos of these cars. I found shots of SLSF 9104. 9126 and 9143 all in Lenexa, KS. I could not find dates anywhere on the prints but my best guess is 1988.

SLSF 9104 - Part of the 9100-9119 car series, similar but not identical to the Tangent model. These cars had return stencils to the PC Mound Road Yard in Detroit.

SLSF 9126 - Part of the 9120-9133 car series. 9126 is marked "BRO" for dedicated service to the Ford Brownstown, MI auto stamping plant. I believe this car series was built by Thrall and would appreciate confirmation or correction.

SLSF 9143 - Part of the 9134-9147 car series from Greenville. The photo of 9343 appears to be a repaint with Gothic reporting marks. This car is also in dedicated service to the Ford Brownstown, MI stamping plant.

    All photos are mine.

The Tangent cars are excellent. The 9134-9144 and other SLSF cars were dedicated to Ford's Brownstown, MI auto parts plant along with cars from SCL, BN, DTI, SSW and others. My prototype photos show all three cars just outside of the regional Ford Parts warehouse in Lenexa, KS. See more reasearch on the Tangent site at

    Hi Rick!
Great to see your post. I remember seeing those boxcars. They came right thru Grand Junction on the fast Ford trains, they were hot trains, you didn't wat to delay them. I marveled at how big they were and tried to imagine how much stuff you could get inside one of them. Now I know what the BRO stencil meant.
    Great description Rick.

Really good to see you here again, Rick.

Hopin' you'll kick yer shoes off n' stay a while!

BTW: For the first time since early 1998, I have a functional layout! (Cut the first stick of lumber for the bench work in Feb 2019, track was 100% installed/wired and up and running in July of that year... having a ton of fun with it ever since including hosted op sessions.)
