This morning, Athearn announced a new run of Wide Vision cabooses (cabeese?). Included are 3 numbers for the Frisco. One is #1700, a special red white and blue livery (which was recently offered by Atlas). The other two represent 1237 and 1281 repainted into the Orange and White livery that the diesels wore. While these models differ from their prototypes in many ways, this is the best we can get for factory produce plastic models. MSRP of $34.99, preorders due 6/25/21, with an expected delivery date of 6/2022. http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/052821/07_RND_WV_Caboose_052821.pdf
One has popped up on an Ebay listing that has a real photo of the product. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1656534241...L17syu6RJG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY To me, the hearald artwork didn't come out quite right. Judge for yourself. See prototype picture below. http://frisco.org/mainline/wp-conte...s-Tennessee-in-November-1977-G.J.-Sommers.jpg
Lack of attention to detail has killed at least two of the recent offerings from Athearn for me. First, the paint line on the re-release of the GP15 (they had it right the first time), now, the artwork on the caboose (FRISCO is too small) and the wrong cupola windows placement (inset from the ends unlike the prototype).
