Checked records and found it has been awhile, so I just sent some support. More to come.

I had access issues over the weekend. It looked like DNS wasn't resolving. Just out of curiosity, what does it cost annually to keep this site up and running?

Thanks Charlie and other un-named individuals that also helped restore the site. I was getting withdrawal symptons.

It's piggybacked onto my other stuff so there's no set amount. TrainBoard largely supports the bills for this site but I pull some donation money once per year, usually.

Thank you for fixing the website, today is the first time I've been able to log on for about a week. Missed you guys.

Do we know, in simple terms, what happened here? I think it was at least 10 days where I couldn't connect. Not complaining, just asking.

In simple terms, no, but maybe an analogy might work, if I really understand what happened.
While you were living with your parents, you received mail directed to you, but at your parents address and the Post Office had no difficulty directing mail to you. When you moved out to your own address, if you filled out a Change of Address form, the Post Office (a bunch of people that could look at an address and reason) then knew where to send your mail (at least until the end of the forwarding period until parties sending you mail were notified by you of the new address).
The Frisco.org forum was physically located at a numerical address in a "sub-folder" of another website. The Domain Name System (DNS, a kind of alpha/numerical address book) on your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) DNS Server (a computer) pointed to the numerical address of that sub-folder and as long as the forum remained there all was good.
A couple of weeks ago, the Frisco.org forum was moved to a new server host at a new numerical address, but the DNS Server (a computer) on some ISP's did not get an updated DNS entry (numerical address) for Frisco.org. It took a little bit of time for the tech guys to figure out what had happened. Once it was figured out, the new host sent out a DNS update for Frisco.org across the Internet so everyone else's ISP DNS Server would have the correct numerical address for Frisco.org.
If computers could intelligently reason (artificial intelligence) like the fine people at the Post Office, the situation might not have happened.

    I agree.

FB has it's place, but it is AWFUL in regards to archiving and information retrieval. It serves its purpose well: A place to BS and post pics that will sink to the bottom of the FB sea, but as a truly valuable place for historical resource, it fails miserably.

Here's my "problem" with posting to this forum: Essentially none of my modeling is Frisco oriented anymore. I model my own "stand-alone" theme, other than Frisco being a connection at off-layout locations, my theme isn't related to the Frisco in any way. (As is the case with your modeling Frisco-related theme, Tom.) This means that what I model, and the modeling things I can talk about, are NOT Frisco specific. Thus, I hesitate to regularly post KC&G content.

    What to do about that?

Now, I will say that it is possible that sometime this summer I'm going to replace this horrid scanner/printer combo unit with a dedicated (and better quality) flatbed scanner (that can also scan slides), and a separate printer. THIS will give me the ability to make decent scans of my personal Frisco photos and slides and upload them to this site. However, gotta' admit this recent DNS scare was indeed a scare. (SO much data and photo resources would be lost if this site goes down for good.)

SO, in the future I hope to have Frisco-related historical content to contribute in greater quantities to this site, but I don't foresee my modeling emphasis changing at all, so there's that in regards to me posting modeling content.

    What say y'all?

I quit Facebook last year and I've been happier without it in my life. I had hundreds of friends and I sent people messages and said, "See ya, but not here." I don't miss it. I'm happier without it. A lot of people unfriended me during the election anyway. Who cares?

We will keep this site going. I haven't been very active, although I do answer all of the e-mails and such so that is going on behind the scenes.

I've been super-tied up with work and such but everything will swing around again at some point and I'll be here all the time.

This problem had us screwed up for a bit but I think it's behind us now.

Thank you Charlie for fixing this problem. As I have been living in a hotel in Delaware for the past month due to my Delaware house suffering a pipe break and being flooded by about 100,000 gallons of water before I found out about it when the water bill came and I decided that something was wrong. We have been living in a hotel since while we are supervising the clean out out since the Frisco.org blackout I have been in SEVERE withdrawal. So "Thank you thank you thank you!!!.
