Dipping into the well again here. I am looking for an earlier P2K (with the imitation Athearn Trucks). Decorated for Frisco. Got a little customization project in mind.
    Thanks!

Well... putting an FA into freight service in any form will certainly back date your model era.

Curiosity is killing me: Wha'cha got in mind??

BTW: Unless sold by an individual that's already replaced 'em, expect it to have split axle gears.

    Thanks Ethan,
I have tried to negotiate with that particular seller. He thinks it is mint. If you look close every handrail on the E side will need to be replaced/made from brass or similar, if you replace one, you need to replace all of them, or as you know it just wont look right. The shell fits loose on the chassis, split gears and a complete disassembly, cleaning of the drive train.

    Hi Andre,
Oh yea I am well awares of the split axles, seized worm gears and solidified lube grease. I am thinking of a few things that be done on this project.:D:D:D

I have an AB set... but I'm still debating its future. The yellow's wrong. :ROFLMAO:

The P2k FA/FB's yellow is a bit too light. The Athearn Genesis F3A/F3B's yellow is a bit too dark. At least that is my view.
But, the real prototypes didn't all match exactly either.

  8. Hey Tom, most all those FAs had terrible hand rails if you haven’t noticed yet. They must be derlin or something similar. They are flexible and never stay straight.

To improve the color I have done basically the reverse of a fade using a few coats of very thin yellow acrylic on just the stripes. The Intermountain F units are the same way to my eyes at least. A pale lemon color. Not sure if it is worth the work it takes?

Agree - the Intermountain yellow is way off.
