Getting acquainted with static grass application. Foam batting glued (Mod Podge) to a foam base, soaked in dirt colored latex paint with three shades of static grass applied .
Filled in the tops of the inclines, plaster cloth applied to one. Side note: Spring Creek Model Trains is shipping my F7 A/B set Monday. I remember the a few of the F units plying the Ft Smith sub, but mostly the GP7s and up.

Before I settled on NCE, I took a look at the Ring system, but since no one I knew was using it, I wasn't able to get any first-hand endorsements. How do you like it? GS

Limited use on short test track, which should change shortly, but here's some highlights I have learned so far. Sound files aren't quite up to Tsunami 2 grade, but good. If I remember correctly, you mentioned too many locomotives with sound on a layout can get loud. Other than that I really like it. Speed matching is quick, thru a simple electric motor load test accomplished in seconds during engine setup. The grand kids took to it quickly and enjoyed it. Pictures vs digits and labels help a little I'm sure. All were able to grasp using the "momentum" function. Well, I didn't have the 5 yr old try yet. Speed table has more "steps" than 128 step DCC so you tune acceleration finer if desired. This makes for a "big sweep" or "slow ratio" spin of the "acceleration" dial. None of this is meant to knock DCC.

Approximately 75% of main loop track is down. Wiring power is closer to 50%. Track acquisition is challenging these days it seems.
