OK sooo, what am I missing here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Athearn-SD...392263?hash=item3ff2059707:g:~~MAAOSwcidf-0-c
Bidding started at $10.00 and went up from there. I saw one of these underneath my layout last week...
I can think of 2 explanations; 1. It's being bid up by someone inexperienced that doesn't really know what they're getting. 2. Money laundering.
You never know what's going to go for silly bucks, or what's going to end up being a decent deal, or what's going to end up being a steal. I've purchased countless decent deals off eBay... and even made many outright steals. I tend to fall out once bidding reaches my "silly" threshold. Either two guys really want that engine and they're in a pi**ing contest. (Believe it or not, there is a niche of hobbyists out there that enjoy collection Blue Box models.) OR... The bidder has a shill (often a close "friend") helping him with fake bids to attempt to inch the bid upward. Bidding can be like the boiling a frog: Ease the temp (bid) up slowly (a dollar or two at a time) until the deed is accomplished.
Anyone interested I will offer mine up for a mere $154 each. Ha. Pretty crazy, but it seems to happen often. Myself I enjoy more the misspelled items that don’t appear in searches and sell cheap. Lol
