From Richard Crabtree on Frisco Rails Across Missouri: We are in Shannon County Missouri along the Frisco's Current River Branch. More than likely taken near Winona, Missouri. Love the wooden cab of the truck, nice touch ~ Ozark ingenuity!
From Richard Crabtree on Frisco Rails Across Missouri: Here we are on the Frisco Current River Branch. First laid out by the Kansas City Fort Scott & Memphis to connect with the lumber company in Grandin, Mo. The Current River Branch would eventually connect up with the River Division giving folks access to St Louis and SE Mo. Photo 1) A common sight on the were the 4-4-0 American type locomotives. Here we have Frisco No. 148 4-4-0 Built by Rogers Locomotive Works in 1886 ~ previously No. 98 working on the Current River Branch. (FACT CHECK) Photo 2)We have pic of a couple surveyors track gang working for the Frisco Railroad Winona, Mo. The picture of 148 has appeared before on this site. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/frisco-151-project.5143/page-2#post-37485 This is Aldrich on the Leaky Roof. The 148 has a southbound passenger train in tow during 1926. Note how Richard’s image has the town of Aldrich removed from the picture
I can't even understand why, on God's green earth, anyone would expend the time and energy to to edit an old railroad photo to represent something that it wasn't. Aside from Don's occasional April 1 dillys, which are good clean fun. Otherwise, someone has way more free time and mental bandwith on their hands than I do. That being said, I've always liked the Winona depot as a good sized, 40s era standard board-and-batten depot.
