Bachmann 2-10-0, any good?

Okay, it's back from Bachmann and for now running like new. Ten days, mailbox to mailbox, including weekends, so not bad service. Still don't care for all the noise it makes, but F8 is near at hand. We'll see how long it hangs on this time.

There’s bound to be a volume control

Oops, you are right. Forgot that thing has the Why Oh Why decoder.

I couldn't find an online manual for that thing from Bachmann or TCS. If there is a manual that came with it, it is reading time.

UPDATE: I just found the TCS Programming Tool which is a CV calculator. Take a deep dive to make your head spin: https://tcsdcc.com/4CVSteamV4.

I’m waiting for the prices on the 1624 to come down to where the rest of the older decs on eBay are. That way if I despise the WOW decoder I haven’t lost that much and can put in a Tsunami2 which I’m completely familiar with. I already have the 1630 and the 1632 so there is no rush.

This is the best analysis I’ve seen yet, getting into what is required to manipulate cv’s in the TCS system. And that’s just the volume controls only. There’s momentum, motor control, selection of whistles and bells and more.

I’ve heard enough. No 1624 for me until they are $125 on eBay and I can add a nice Tsunami decoder.

Too complicated. F8 is still best.

Yes it is, too complicated, much too arcane. I want sound, but not in a package that requires a scientist to negotiate it. Remember QSI ? You had to be a geek to download what sounds you wanted.

Bachmann should have made a cheaper DC version like they used to for us that might not want TCS.

It's worth remembering that just because you CAN build a thing doesn't mean you SHOULD.
