There is an Overland Models 4400 class on e-bay http://tinyurl.com/qqfefu and I was wondering if it was any good. I know it is an older model by todays brass standards. So if you have one and would like to sound off on it, I would like to know. Thanks, Steve
You really need Don Wirth to give an opinion, but I have both the oil and coal versions that Overland produced and am very happy with them. The problem with the one currently on ebay is that "Dad's Brass Trains" has a very unrealistic idea of what models like this are worth. This particular one has been offered at least five times and the bidding never reaches whatever reserve he has put on it. Not the model's fault and no reason not to put a reasonable bid on it, but don't be disappointed if you wind up being the high bidder but then find that you have not met the reserve. Look in "Gordon's Album" for pix of my two (and also the 4300 that Overland produced at the same time) as painted and detailed by Don. Gordon
I agree! I have dealt with Dads and he is over priced and I have found him to be rude too. He needs to catch up with what is going on in the Hobby industry. I think what has happened is he either purchased these and don't wanna nor is he willing to take a loss, or he just got it in and wants to make a heck of a profit off of it. Either way, I dont bid on what he has, no matter what it is or how bad I might want it. I remember being a kid and wanting a brass engine in the worst way, now that DCC has come into the picture, I have found that Brass has taken a dive straight into affordability almost every where except Dads! I would suggest Caboose hobbies, or other brass dealers or watch ebay and be patient. Eventually it will come up from from another seller. I watch Brass like nobodies business and should know!
It is still sitting there with no bids and from what has been said here it will still be there tomorrow, with no bids. In the last 8 years on e-bay I have purchased two things from him, but it has been a long time and one of the engines I got from him was quite rare, or at least I had seen only one for sale in my time of buying brass. Why don't you make him an offer in keeping what you're willing to pay or think the engine is worth? You might just get yourself an engine and you can find out if he's nice or not at the same time. Tom

When thinking that a "reserve is not met," it also means the items was "not sold." If you make an offer, you can find out how bad he wants to sell... Tom
