I finished the overhead valence for modules 01 and 12, match drilled and bolted module 01 to 02.

Cynthia and I are going to test fit background for modules 01 thru 04, 06 and 07 this evening.

Hopefully I can modify module 08 benchwork for the tall steel trestle that goes in the middle of 08 tomorrow afternoon.

Last night Nick, a good friend, and I test fit four backgrounds for modules 01 thru 06 and 07. After mapping scenery details will remove them to paint the sky outside. When dry Cynthia will paint clouds, mountains, trees and other details in the living room where there's plenty of space. She will probably start Sunday or Monday.

This morning I built the last overhead valence for module 08. Need to move the work table so I can rework benchwork for a tall steel trestle on 08.

Cynthia and I test fit two more panels of background for modules 06, 07 and 08. Then I sealed the river banks and front fascia, will do the back when the background is installed after painting so I can pour water. Saturday morning going to purchase LED lights and another sheet of Masonite which should be enough for the remaining projects.

    Looking good Joe,

May I suggest a generous coat or two, of good primer to seal up that Masonite, before any color of paint is added, stuffs like a sponge.

    Thank you Tom.

Cynthia suggested using Gesso to seal the panels, it's white when dry.

I found an old coal mine kit that I put together back in the mid 80's, it's' missing some of the roof.
Thinking it is the first N scale kit I purchased, started N scale in March 1984.

Also yesterday afternoon I didn't get to work on the layout very much. Did get to mark a few scenery details on background panels.

We are going to purchase LED lights and another sheet of Masonite in a few minutes. Can't wait to see how the layout looks with the new lights, hopefully my next post will have photos of it.

Walla we have light, sort of. One of the light set doesn't work and will have to return it Sunday afternoon. Here's modules 04 thru 07.

I exchanged the bad light set and installed it this evening. The lights have an adhesive back but decided to use zip ties instead. I put a spot of hot glue on the bottom of overhead valence and placed a zip tie in it. After that put more hot glue over the tie and when it's set installed lights. Didn't pull the ties tight but left about half inch loop.

Tomorrow afternoon going to paint the background with Gesso and let them dry for 24 hours.

Cynthia and I removed the background panels and gave them first coat of Gesso yesterday and will give them a second coat this afternoon. Tomorrow afternoon will paint the sky then give them to Cynthia to paint.

I found good spots for buildings to go on modules 01, 02 and 03, they are leftovers from my previous double track layout. There are photos of the layout in my albums page.

Next month I'm going to purchase two LED lights with natural white 4000K to add to the cool white that are installed. They are from superbrightleds.com 5 meters White 4000K 24V part number STN-A4DK80-B6A-08B517-24V.

Like Keith said about cool white lights being too blue, the blue foam on the layout really brings blue out. Thank you Keith.

Cynthia and I put the background back in place to mark scenery details and in the process of painting sky this morning. Currently painting the darker blue and will blend lighter blue this afternoon. I have a couple of photos that have the Sun and Moon, module 04 will have Sun and 05 the Moon. Their pretty cool photos and will post them in my next post, want to finish painting first.

Was up late into night, first thing I did was countersink and add some screws to modules and overhead valence then did sanding which took twice as long as doing Gesso. This is a countersink cage used in aircraft assembly, there is a nut you unscrew and lift the collar to adjust depth in 0.001 increments.

    20200807_230409.jpg

Applied Gesso for fascia on modules 05, 06 and overhead valence. It was too late to paint outside so will paint the sky today. The fascia will be forest green and overhead valence fascia will be dark blue.

    20200807_235706.jpg 20200808_000004.jpg 20200808_000008.jpg 20200808_000022.jpg 20200808_000022.jpg 20200808_000030.jpg 20200808_000035.jpg

Thinking about the design for HO layout on top of overhead valence. It would be 14 inches wide and about 28 feet long and it would be a point to point mainline along three walls. On one end there would be a Wye and other end a loop with both ends having bump outs to make it possible. The time era would be 1920's and possibly Enid.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

This afternoon and evening I painted the layout fascia forest green and overhead valence fascia blue. It's too late to paint outside once again, I'm going to try in morning.

Tomorrow afternoon will go to Hobby Lobby to pick up another bottle of Gesso, most of the Masonite panels required three Gesso coats as well the color paints.

Yep, like I said that Masonite is like a sponge.
Hey Joe, tell Cynthia she has about 400' of blank her she can practice on. About anything is better than my efforts.

400 feet is a lot of background, we only have about 30 feet to paint. Haven't decided if there will be a background for the HO layout.

It will probably take two more bottles of Gesso to complete.

Just finished painting the darker blue on background panels. All of the other panels look like this one, will go back to paint light blue to blend more. The wood blocks are a handel to make it easier to install and are painted, they will be left on.

The background for modules 01 thru 04 has two handles.
