I'm fascinated by the quality of some people's work when it comes to colorizing old photographs. Some are so good you can't tell they weren't originally glorious Kodachrome. I'm not that good, but I've had some fun giving it a try. Bringing in color, to me, just gives that moment in time a whole new life.

My first shot was of this image that was on one of the "Where is it" contests. I really liked the composition of it.
Link to original photo. And colorized:

My second is a much older photograph, guessing 1910ish of the Frisco depot in my grandmother's town long, long since torn down.

So has anyone else tried this? If so, care to share? I'm using PhotoShop however there are several free options out there. One I'm particularly impressed with is PhotoPea which is a web based PhotoShop alternative.

    Great work!
What drove the color choices for the depot?

That was just a guess, honestly. I knew it wasn't the lighter colors seen at later dates so I assumed it must have been a brownish color of some sort. If anyone has a color photo of what this color typically should be I would re-do it to be as accurate as possible. That was a hard photo to work with since it was pretty washed out to begin with and low resolution.

My favorite photo is the first one with steam locomotive 4030, the second photo is great too. Thank you for posting your colorized photos, would like to see more when you get finished with them.
