Sanborn Maps for Missouri

Folks -
Big props to Frisco Folk John Mann for pointing me in the right direction on this one:

The University of Missouri-Columbia's Ellis Library has digitized over 6,000 Sanborn maps for Missouri. The aforementioned side has a search function.

As I found today by visiting Ellis Library in person, for various reasons not all of the maps are digitized yet. Seems part of it may have to do with copyright laws.

One librarian also indicated that the digitized maps are neither catalogued very systematically nor are they necessarily thorough in their descriptions. To wit: I could not find anything for Bragg City. However, I did stumble across a Bragg City map from 1919 under a header for Kennett.

Newburg, 1919 - interesting. Several hotels are shown. Does anybody know - was the Baker Hotel what became the Houston House? I'm not sure I recall what block the Houston House is on.

The little building straddling the creek (the Branch) is shown as being vacant. That's the building I recall being a sleezy beer pub in the early 1960's during my MSM time.

John Mann , how many times did you tell me you'd contacted the Univ. of Missouri library to get copies via interlibrary loan? Until I hear otherwise, I credit you as being the catalyst for getting this project rolling!

I posted another note on the Caruthersville branch, but I finally managed to show up to Ellis Library in person during hours when Special Collections librarians were on duty and was able to access hard copies no problem. Hence, if there are still gaps in what the digital maps provide, let me know and I'll do what I can (be forewarned: it was approximately 5 years in between my trips to the Special Collections area!).
