BNSF has brought a former SL-SF GP38-2 to the Junction, it was I believe #406. Here it sits in the GJ Depot yard BNSF 2261. Built in 1973, 47 years old and still doin the deed. A long way from home.

I wonder how many miles and hours the locomotive has. It's got to be way up there. That is quite a find Tom.

I bet it is sitting there thinking "Having me in this crummy pumpkin decor sure isn't as classy as I was in my o/w days!"

Like Ralphie on the movie Christmas Story when he had to wear the pink bunny rabbit pajamas.

I wonder what we all would say if it had SLSF Lettering on the side with the coonskin herald on the front!

That's funny Jim. Cynthia and I watch Christmas Story every year several times, TBS has it on all day on Christmas day. It's been a tradition every year since it was released.

Very cool. every time I see a train with a 4 axle unit on the BNSF here on the creek sub SW of Tulsa, I always look at the cab numbers and check to see if they are ex Frisco back on the home rails, once in a while it happens. I saw cab number 3100 a GP50 a few days ago and assumed it might have been the original 3100 delivered to BN in orange and white paint but it was not, that loco is gone. Great stuff thanks for sharing.

DSC_0569.JPG Here's another one. Believe BNSF #2581 is the former Frisco #731 (can confirm this in some, but not all on-line BNSF rosters). I found this prowling around the yard last week at Ardmore, Oklahoma. Anyhow, it looks pretty good for its age.

Cool stuff Greg. These old Geeps are on their 4-5th rebuilds now. They are kept in service for their light axle loading for smaller rail and perhaps more important their ability to negotiate much tighter curves than their 6 axle brethren.
We had a couple more Geeps show up here in GJ, I will get down and take some images and see whats up. The Local crew isn't happy as they used to have 2, GE C-4's. These old units are cool but for some folks it is stepping back 40+ years. Anyway will see if any other former Frisco power has shown up.

I can't concur; it appears that BNSF #2581 has had many faces/lives, originally built as ATSF #1458 EMD GP35, then as ATSF #3458 EMD GP35, as ATSF #2958 EMD GP35, then as BNSF #2581 EMD GP35, then as BNSF #2581 an EMD GP35u and has resurfaced as BNSF #2581 a GP39-3.

...which is why I said I cannot universally confirm.
