After learning how to print my own decals using a laser printer and decal paper, I have produced the following "what if ?" models in O scale: qap_autoparts1.jpg QAP_autopartsX.jpg qap_autopoarts2.jpg QAP_FP45.jpg qap_mech1.jpg qap_mech2.jpg qap_mech3.jpg QAP_tofc1.jpg qap4.jpg

I also did a 5 car series of 50' plug door boxcars with the GARX reporting marks (in the 6th photo). The GARX cars are not exact replicas of the fleet QA&P leased, but hey...
One of them was donated to the RR museum in Quanah.

I'm liking me some QA&P stuff O scale, HO, what if or not, about all of my QA&P stuff is what if, but try to base it on common practice the mother road applied. I especially like your first image of the cushion car.

  3. Those are great. I always enjoy Tom's "what if" QA&P models. Neat seeing someone else take it on too.

Although the QA&P never had an express reefer like this, it is still fun to pretend.
I goofed on the finished car by putting decals behind the high brake wheel ladder...still not too bad.

TOM: Your 'QUANAH' boxcars are masterpieces!
I think that the 'Quanah' needs a passenger train ... somewhere is my piles of "stuff" I have plans for an SP "shorty" combine - used somewhere around the San Antonio area. It would be a good starting point; will have to see if I can locate it for you.

  9. Man o man Tom I love everyone of those. I have seen them before and still love checking them out.
I would sure love to make it out to see your layout someday.

Nice Tom. I imagine you might have more Quanah equipment on your pike than the QA&P rostered!

Steve, it is worth the trip. I've been twice but want to go again and spend more time there.

  13. Having only seen the video I can't imagine it in person.

The latest from QA&P paint shops...an 800 class series of express boxcar to replace the old 400 series which had bad lettering. FA6CB17E-CB64-41F7-8A52-19D63E5041C2.jpeg 13AFE6C2-0B70-4FB5-92EA-745929CA5338.jpeg FB19BA6F-CFC9-4677-96EE-4D8528DC03D6.jpeg

This is a first attempt at modelling a QA&P GP7. Sharp eyed people will notice it is actually a GP9, so the louvers messed up the lettering. I have recently finished an actual Lionel GP7 redone as #564...it turned out much better.

That is QA&P fireman Dee Smith holding down the left-hand side for engineer Clyde King. Dee always wore a cowboy hat on duty.
    Fun times while they lasted.
