4162 Was painted today and is in pieces in the oven baking. Day or two curing, put it all back together, paint smokebox/firebox, lettering, windows and such and then the Soundtraxx Tsunami 2 with Current keeper. Another week and it should be on the way to my friend.

The blocks are just holding the foam in place while the glue dries. We're starting to get a little terrain shape. Won't have near the elevation changes or serious s-curves of some of my fellow members' layouts, but it'll do. ;-)

Don't throw your foam chunks away. They can add shapes...

    Happy Wednesday All,

A small amount of progress on the new sections of the Crawford and Cherokee...

Managed to paint the fascia and foam top on the new Weir City Brickyard and put roadbed down, including the wood roadbed for the interface between the brickyard section and the existing south Weir section.

You can see that I had to tear up some of the existing scenery and track on the existing module, and change the path at the interface.

For the new Lightning Creek sections, I have it up on its feet, and painted the fascia and top. Working on track layout, and have decided to stick with something near the original plan.

Unfortunately, I also had to pull up some track and scenery from the South Cherokee section, one of my favorites for photography. Soaking with some 50% isopropyl alcohol and using a small putty knife and shop vac, I think I did little collateral damage.

As soon as my GapMasters come in, I will start laying track. I need to build a couple of #6 turnouts with the FastTrack jigs, but I think I can knock those out by next week as well. Hopefully wired and operational by the end of the month, if not sceniced. Still need to fill in that corner with a fiddle track section!

    Take Care All,

    -Bob T.

  5. Well the Freightliner is 99% done. I need to add the emblem to the nose and just some little touch up stuff. He is a few pics, gimme your thoughts or any blatant errors. I will try to get some good outdoor shots if the weather cooperates someday. Thanks, Steve

    Steve -
Wonderful work! How did you get the Missouri plate? Scan one and reduce its size?
We had those maroon plates for a long time!

  7. Thanks Ken!

I have done that in the past Ken. But there was a decal guy on ebay that offered the maroon, black and white and green and white missouri tags. So I got all three and liked how that one looked on there. The Mike Condren picture I used for the model was taken in Ft Smith. But I used some artistic licence and put on a Missouri tag. Same guy had Texas and Oklahoma so I got those for future Frisco or cough cough MKT project trucks as well.

If anyone of you want to make your own www.acme.com lets you make your own custom scaled down tags. They say you can pretend you are in prison. HA They have several fun things on the site.

    Thanks again, Steve

Beautiful work and the details are outstanding!
Steve, I would rather a thousand chiggers visit my gonads than to try and critique your work.

  9. Hahahaha I’m speechless Sherrel.

thanks my friend, I appreciate it.

Given that I have had considerable experience with Missouri Ozark chiggers, Sherrel's alternative regarding critiques sounds real bad to me! I'd suggest some other alternative.
You'll be doing a lot of delicate scratching, don't 'ya know!

    Roger,

Nice work, really like the cabooses.

With the U-1 wheel inspection stencils on the cars (cabooses), this sets the time frame after March 31, 1978.

In the late 1970’s the Consolidated Stencils should be either a single box or a two box style. Single box stencils started appearing around 1966. Initially they were a black box, square or rectangle, with white lettering. These were formalized by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) with the single box surrounded by a 1” white border for new or rebuilt cars in 1972.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) issued a directive that all cars have a Consolidated Stencil starting July, 1974. This also marked the introduction of the two block style stencil. The two block style could be arranged horizontally or vertically. If horizontal, they could be closely separated if needed due to car body obstructions (side ribs, jack pads, stake pockets, etc.). The stencils were to be applied to on the lower right of each side when facing the car.

The smaller three panel style Consolidated Stencils did not start appearing until after January 1, 1982. This change was prompted by a revision from the FRA that no longer required periodic inspection and recondition dates on the stencils. As a result, the smaller stencil contained only cleaned, oiled, tested and stencil (COTS), bearing repacking (RPKD), lubrication (LUB), in date testing (IDT), built date (BLT) and rebuilt date (REBLT) (if applicable) information.

Photographs indicate both modeled cabooses had two box style, vertically stacked, Consolidated Stencils. At least SLSF 1200 was retired with this style. Consider amending the Consolidated Stencils to reflect the more appropriate style that existed prior to November 21, 1980.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Mark

I was a magnet to them growing up in the woods down in Arkansas during my preteen years - know full well how they itch!

  15. A couple fun shots of some old proto E8s I finished up for my dad. 2010 was the engine my great grandpa was waiting for when he passed away at the depot Newburg. So kinda felt obligated to add the one to the collections here. 2020 just factory paint. 2010 was relettered and numbered from a microscale set. I added the nose grab irons, little ledge along the fireman's side of the nose and the 5 chime and single rear horns. The rest is stock. For some reason I had put these off for a while but fun to see out in the sun. Enjoy, Steve

Good looking Steve! Be they models or pics of the real thing, the Frisco "Racehorses/Red Birds" were top notch. Sure wish I could see them again.

My 2020 and 2016 are on a shelf above my desk. Also, off to the side, are my E7 2003 Texas Special and my austerity E8 2006. They look pretty good also. I like to have these sitting around as they keep reminding me of all the good times I had when I was active in my "Frisco hobby".
