Atlas just announced a run of their international cabooses in Frisco Bicentenial paint in N, HO, and O scale. The numbers announced are 1240, 1700, and 1776. ( I know, the body is not right for 1700 and 1776... and the cupola isn’t right for 1240.... ) Here are links to the n-scale versions: https://shop.atlasrr.com/p-52793-n-extended-vision-caboose-frisco-1240.aspx https://shop.atlasrr.com/p-52794-n-extended-vision-caboose-frisco-1700.aspx https://shop.atlasrr.com/p-52795-n-extended-vision-caboose-frisco-bicentennial-1776.aspx I will let someone else post the list for other scales ( the artwork is the same for all of them. It is on the O-scale body...) Also, Wheels of Time announced some new 3D printed MOW truck models that I believe are appropriate for Frisco MOW trucks ( unfortunately, the best source I had for MOW truck photos was Mike Condren’s website.... ) These are available in HO: http://www.wheelsotime.com/ho-medheavy-duty-work-trucks/ And N: http://www.wheelsotime.com/n-medheavy-duty-work-trucks/
I just heard the N scale Bicentenials will hit US shores between Christmas and New Years. I am actually looking forward to these.
I picked my 3 bicentennial cabooses up on Saturday. They look really good. It is interesting to note that the paint on 1240 and 1700 is different. Most noticeably, the stripes are wider on 1700 than 1240. This is shown in the atlas artwork, but I didn’t catch it until the models were in my hands.
I now have 1240 and 1776. I haven't purchased 1700... Yet. Pictures below. Atlas did a nice job on these.
I know some roads bought the ICC wide vision cabs with the wide cupola window spacing as did the Frisco. I know other roads bought the ICC wide vision cabs with the close cupola spacing as was modeled by Atlas, et al. I wonder how many of each were made, and I wonder why the different designs for the cupola windows. Anybody have any ideas on the answers? K
General question on 1776 - wasn't the paint also applied to the roof? I seem to remember seeing one pic where it hinted that the roof had the red-white-blue as well. Not that I'm picking on the Atlas model, I take it for what it is and for what Atlas is able to provide for us SLSFers given the caboose itself is a homebuilt. I got one of the blue ones but my pusher didn't have 1776 in stock (really wanted that one!) EDIT: May have found my answer...BOTH. This pic from 1975 clearly shows silver roof. And this pic from 1972 it's definitely red, white and blue! Love learning new things after all these years..hah
Good investigative work! IMO, I'm just happy that Atlas produced these models for us. Most of us would never have these beautiful cabooses without this offering from Atlas. We know from previous runs that they only produce the narrow spaced windows on their models. For those of you that prefer to count rivets, correct replacement parts are available thanks to the modern miracle of 3D printing. https://www.shapeways.com/product/2...74-1200-1274?optionId=58167122&li=marketplace
