From Richard Crabtree on Frisco Rails Across Missouri: Here we see Frisco No. 1044 4-6-2 built by Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1912 and Frisco No. 1402 4-6-0 built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1902 in Chaffee, Missouri at the Frisco roundhouse and turntable. We see a Frisco engineer and fireman posing in front of their prize steed ready to ride.
I have the original. The taller man's son, Charles Vickery, told me this was St. Louis not Chaffee. It was a Chaffee crew.
Tim, That thought occurred to me as well. I had looked back over maps and pics and couldn’t place it. Another thought, the picture does appear to be in a locomotive servicing area or ready track. Wouldn’t the “Memphian” and “Sunnyland” motive power have been running through Chaffee without change or servicing by this date? Servicing of passenger power in Chaffee, then, would have been unusual. And as for date, I’d guess sometime about 1943 or thereafter, if SLSF 1044 is sporting a larger sand dome, which it apparently is. Tim, Is your source “Coach” Vickery? I think he and my mom both were Chaffee High School (CHS) Class of 1970.
No. It was coach's dad "Vick" with the information. He is deceased now. My uncle Joe was in that class of 1970 too.
