Here is my just completed model of SLSF 190.

This is a factory painted Life-Like N-scale FB-1 with the Alco roof details both dynamic brakes and exhaust stacks removed.

The spark arrestors here are from Miniatures by Eric.

The 3 digit number and Frisco name are microscale decals.

With the 3 digit number, this puts the unit into its last year or so of operation, having been renumbered in 1968 and retired in 1969.

    Good looking item, Paul.

The weather, combined with the spark arrestors, definitely indicates a unit nearing the end of its time on the Frisco.

    Best Regards.

I am looking for a photographs showing the exhaust stacks location on a re-powered FA-1 & FB-1 units.

There are numerous photographs, however, a more detailed one showing where on the roof they are located is what I need.

I was informed that there is a photograph in one of the Diesel Spotters Guide books which unfortunately I do not have.

    Thanks,

    John

    John:

I have run across no hard data on where the stacks should be located.

This is the best side photo I have seen for such placement, but I wish it were better:

However, the photo does seem to have the FA-1 nearly centered, and you can see the stubs of stacks sticking up.

As long as all your modified FA-1 models have the stacks placed the same, it will look "correct".

Be sure to remove the crank case breather cap off the roof of the Alco powered FA-1 model.

That is an easy feature to miss.

    Good luck!

Oh, and be sure to share your project with us via pics!

    Andre,

That is about good as it gets. Close enough!

As far as the breather cap goes, I think that chiseling it off, then putting a piece of thin styrene over it, will simulate that it is welded over the hole.

    What do you think?

    Thanks for the photo!

Would the distance between the stacks be the same as on a GP7 since the diesel engine is the same?

It would then simply be a problem of locating one of the stacks and measuring to find the second.

And, there was very little else located on the roof of the 567 powered FA-1s and FB-1s

There is a fairly good top side view of one that was posted on frisco.org in 2019 as I recall.
