There is no doubt that we all wished that some loco manufacturer (Scale Trains, Rapido, Athearn, etc.) would make this model in both B/Y, O/W and why not, the GE paint scheme.
There where other railroads as well who had these. Was there anyone from this forum tried to twist some arms, sort of speak, to make this happen?

  5. There are two demo schemes, two black and yellow schemes, orange and white, Conrail and UP.
I have asked Athearn and Scale Trains and they have zero interest. Gotta make another SD-40-2 and UP turbine model. I have suggested it in “what model is missing” threads on other forums as well.
I think there would be interest, these also interchanged with other roads on the Frisco.
Maybe someday? I sure wish they would.

I think the UP was the only other road that had the high-nose version of the U-25b. Other roads bought the U-25b fairly quickly, but it was the first low-nose version by then.

    Well! Steve & Ken,
Surely the idea of UP having these besides Frisco should raise their eyebrows!

  8. I thought so too John. Every turbine, DD-40, DD35, U50 etc has a model but not this.
I even brought it up both nights at Ken Patterson’s this summer too.

Ken you are correct unless you count the brief stint a couple Frisco units got sent to Conrail from GE after being B30-7 trades.

Bob, I really like what you have done here. Between extreme busyness with work and just a general “don’t want to model” funk, it’s nice to see an achievable and well built layout.

And the nice thing about each section you add? It can always be the last section or the next to last.

    Best Regards,

How hard is it to convert a low-nose version to the high-nose version? Is it possible to get a high nose? The steps and buffer look different, too.

  16. Yeah the buffers, pilots, steps are different. Fuel and air tanks too. Cab only has 2 windows. Headlight orientation. Handrails are the biggest hang up to me.
With all that said Charlie built an amazing one out of AHM U25c shells many years ago. It can be done.
If I was a little more competent resin caster I would make molds off a brass one. Maybe the 3D printed world will offer something usable in the future.
I’d like the pre u25 test units too myself.

Don't forget the fuel tank, air supply tank, the front and rear railing, headlight number board.
I guess Shapeway can do this?

    Steve -
Your high nose 25b's are really nice! We need to form a sub-group of frisco.org members who are U-boat fans!
I still remember seeing one for the first time one day at MSM in Rolla. It was moving eastbound and was chugging as it climbed Rolla Hill. Couldn't figure out what it was until some time later.

  20. Here is my attempt at a G scale one too. This shows 15 years of foot dragging and procrastination. The handrails killed this. I need to get back on it,but at this point I'd like to repaint it to a better shade of orange etc.... one of these days.
