He was in service until January of 1964 when he died in an automobile accident. He had been in regular passenger service for a few years then.
Well, okay, this is the WILL ROGERS or else the OKLAHOMAN. The second unit has the simplified "cigar band" livery, which, according to Lou Marre began being applied in 1965. I would take his word as gospel. Perhaps this will help date the photograph. GS
