    I haven't been able to pay the attention to these post as I should lately. There is some really good modeling on this thread!!

    Below is my offering for this Wednesday. This OMI Frisco caboose is getting a little closer to being done. Gotta get a dull coat on it some weathering and then some glazing, which is always a challenge on brass cabooses for some reason they limited the access to the cupola in a big way. Even after I took a nibbler and and chewed away all the material I could, still limited access.

    Tom, that is a fantastic model!

    My offering is rather limited, as not much progress since the three-day weekend. I was about to paint the track on my Lightning Creek staging/extension module:


    but realized that I had not wired any feeders! The other portion, the mine module, still has wiring and switch machines. Not so much for this new piece. So working on that tonight, and considering a couple of upcoming projects.


    I ordered the new Spectrum ten-wheeler on sale at Micro-Mark:



    Trying to figure out the best way to remove the Santa-Fe lettering, and Frisco-ify it. I ordered sets of the K4 Frisco Steam Locomotive decals and will try to find a reasonable fit. Any suggestions for a number for this little beast? Does it get a red cab roof?


    Also looking over the instructions for the Martinsburg Coal Mine kit from AMB, which I grabbed when Midwest was having a sale on structures:


    ...trying to figure out how to kitbash the tipple to span two tracks on the lightning creek module.

    Take care all, maybe some actual progress over the weekend.

    Bob Its looking great all the way around. Has your 10 wheeler been clear coated? If not Solvaset will probably remove the lettering and numbers.

    Thanks Tom, the SW1500s arrived perfect. Glad you approve. Your caboose looks great. I have one of those to paint also. Plus some plastic ones but the cupola windows are the hang up. I haven't felt up to the repaint work it will take.

    I had a few things this week here:
    First last Saturday my dad and I went to an IPMS model contest. I didn't take much but did ok. My MKT caboose on the trailer and the wrecked GP 35 both won their classes and the GP 35 won best miscellaneous model. Those shows are almost all military models but better than nothing.

    From the model bench was working on an ex=SLSF BN/BNSF covered hopper in the works that a friend sent me a picture of:

    Also for my dad I am painting a gas electric, apparently because I was a bad kid he is repaying me by having me do these stripes! I used the oddball decals but should have painted it all in hindsight.

    Also a little work on the GMC project for St Louis. I have the interior close to done. I also put glass in the cab. For the back windows I used an old IPhone screen saver so I could crack the glass.

    Tom - I like your treatment on the trucks. Very nice looking Frisco cab. Maybe straighten out the brake wheels?

    Hi Ken,
    Yea I thought that as well about the brake wheels. but I gotta tell you I am a little apprehensive about even touching them, as about everything I have touched on this thing to straightened, usually ends up in multiple pieces. I have thought about gluing some Kadee brake wheels on anyways though.

    I continued on with the Northwest Short Line USRA 0-6-0. I would call it about 90% finished with just some minor details to add. Doesn't seem to be a way to make this ugly thing look any better. I hope that's the last oil bunker with the round back end I have to do. I guess I will put an Econami decoder in it too. I really don't know what I wasted this time on a 3800 because they were just downright ugly. But, it is what it is. I guess I will finish up the 3692 next. Most of the engine work is done, but have to do the tender. Never a shortage of work here in the W. Pacific Shops. Finish up the 1039, the 185,40xx and 1355.

    I plan to model this locomotive in N scale. How did you come across the fuel bunker dimensions ? Ed

    Basically I scaled it from photos. Guess n by gosh. I'm thinking Frisco probably used tenders from other small power instead of converting the USRAs to oil. I just took the bunker sides off and built the oil bunker.
    I found a photo of one of them with the original USRA coal tender.

    Don,
    That is some great modeling! More about that bunker, I bet it was a pain to build. Incredible detail. It seems the more I work with brass the less I know about soldering.

    Good idea regarding using Kadee brake wheels. They are quite nice. I just checked to see what wheel the 1200's used - Kadee has several styles.
    Your SLSF 1268 used Ajax brake wheels, as did all the SLSF 1200-1274 series. Kadee makes a beautiful Ajax wheel as does, I think, Detail Associates and probably others.

    The very last orders of the Frisco ICC cabs, SLSF 1275-1284 and 1285-1292 used an Ellcon brake wheel. Don't think I've ever heard of that one!
