OK, a couple of months back I mentioned that I have a large stock of HO freight car trucks available at a significant saving. I'm a "truck guy" but I have many more trucks than I will ever use. I just like them! So, I'll start with some of the premier trucks - in this case Kadee's "HGC" self centering trucks. As noted above, these are in their original, unopened Kadee package, mint condition. I picked these up from a shop that was closing, so I can offer them at a very attractive price. Each of these trucks cost $10.25 per pair at Kadee, Walthers, and hobby shops. I'll offer them at $5.00 each, less than half of the shop prices. I have assembled a "Frisco selection" to get started - six different trucks that were preferred and used by the Frisco on its freight cars. All are available at Walthers, but at the $10.25 price. One of these, an ASF A-3 "Ride Control" truck is currently out of stock at Walthers. All wheels are Kadee's metal RP-25 wheel sets. Here is the listing of the six Frisco favorites: Kadee 562, ASF A-3 Ride-Control, self centering, 33" rib-back wheels, standard bearings, 50-ton Kadee 563, ASF A-3 Ride-Control, self centering, 33" smooth-back wheels, standard bearings, 50-ton Kadee 564, generic Bettendorf truck, self centering, 33" smooth-back wheels, standard bearings, 50-ton Kadee 566, Barber S-2-B, self centering, 33" smooth-back wheels, standard bearings, 70-ton Kadee 569, Barber S-2, self centering, 36" smooth-back wheels, roller bearings, 100-ton (*) Kadee 570, Barber S-2, self centering, 33" smooth-back wheels, roller bearings, 70-ton FYI - Kadee 562 is the truck currently out of stock at Walthers. The (*) indicates that the Kadee 569 truck looks like a Barber S-2 to me, but it is not so indicated on the package. Close enuf for me. By "standard bearings" I am referring to what are commonly called, though incorrectly, "friction bearings". All bearings generate friction. All of these trucks are pictured on Kadee's web page. Walthers' number for Kadee is 380-. Just enter, say, 380-570 in their search bar, and it will bring up the 70-ton, S-2 roller bearing truck. So, these six trucks will cost $5.00 each, or $30.00. Shipping will be light enough to ship via USPS first class in a box. Should weigh about 9-10 oz, so shipping will be much less than Priority Mail and much quicker at virtually the same cost than parcel post. Payment via PayPal "friends & family" please, to meteor910@mindspring.com. If interested, let me know ASAP via a message on frisco.org. If successful on this grouping, I will offer next a Kadee selection of caboose trucks and odd trucks, but again trucks used and/or seen by or on the Frisco. Thanks. Ken. ALL THESE ITEMS HAVE BEEN SOLD, PLUS OTHERS AS WELL SEE POSTING BELOW FOR WHAT ITEMS ARE LEFT. THANKS!
OK, here is what is left of the Kadee trucks. Note, the following four trucks are for older freight cars and cabooses - for those of you who model the older eras. All mint, in original unopened package. To view pictures, look them up on-line in the Walthers homepage catalog. Kadee #551, arch bar freight car trucks, self centering, 33" rib-back wheels, standard bearings Kadee #561, arch bar freight car trucks, HGC self centering, 33" rib-back wheels, standard bearings Kadee #581, Bettendorf T-section caboose trucks, HGC self centering, 33" rib-back wheels, standard bearings, leaf springs Kadee #583, arch bar caboose trucks, HGC self-centering, 33" rib-back wheels, standard bearings, leaf springs And for those who model the modern era: Kadee #560, ACL Barber S-2 freight car trucks, HGC self centering, 33" smooth-back wheels, roller bearings, 70-ton (*) (*) This is an ACL version of the Barber S-2 70-ton roller bearing truck. It has a slightly different spring plank than does the standard Barber S-2. Other roads used it in addition to the ACL. Hard to tell the difference unless you look at the spring plank end side-by-side. 560, 561, 581, and 583 are $5 each ($10.25 from Walthers et al) 551 is $4 ($8 from Walthers et al) As noted in my posting above -- payment via PayPal "friends & family", plus 1st class shipping. Let me know ASAP if interested. Thanks Ken All these items have been sold. Thanks!
Let's see - I think that leaves the #560, #551, #561 -- is that it? If so , I'll take them. Let me know the total?
OK Bob, thanks a bunch! For the two caboose trucks, Kadee #581 and#583, cost is $5 plus $5, or $10 total. Shipping via USPS first class mail will be about $2.50 max, so a total of $12.50 will do it. Please send payment via PayPal "friends & family" to avoid their fee. Send to meteor910@mindspring.com. Also send me your mailing address as I don't think I have it. K
Hey Sherrel - how are you doing? Hope all is well as much as expected. That's the shape I'm in! Thanks for your purchase - nice trucks! The Kadee 561, 560, and 551 total to $5 plus $5 plus $4, a total of $14. Shipping via USPS first class should be about $2.50, so the total is $$16.50. Will ship ASAP. Payment via PayPal "friends & family" to meteor910@mindspring.com I posted the fact that we took a Holiday cruise Dec 19 - Jan 2 on Oceania's m/s Riviera. Great cruise, beautiful ship, sold out, 10 islands in 14 days. Whew! As we checked in at Miami Dodge Island cruise port, a guy noticed I had a TWA Ambassadors Club tag still on my carry-on bag. TWA is still remembered my friend! K
Ha, KEN -- I have not been anywhere in a while .. too many medical problems + at the moment - no passport. Wondering if I will get my money's worth with a "new one". Wife has been burning her's up with friends and her sisters. They love to travel - me: i'd just as soon babysit the dogs, HA. Whenever I do, or last went to D.C. to visit daughter and gkids ... I always travel with my "TWA GETAWAY" carryon from the 70,s Usually have several folks comment! I'll get the $ headed that way Saturday.
While we're on this subject, I have had trouble getting some of these trucks to work. Are these the ones with the tab, on them where you have to get it as close to the bolster as possible and then pull the tab out? Mine almost always fall apart ! What is the trick, I know I am doing something wrong. But What ? Seems the plastic ones, I just run the tuner, around them incert the wheel and they just roll forever. Call me Crazy !!1
Bill, These are unstable to twisting until they are attached to the car. I have used a twist-tie to hold the frame together if handling them for things like painting the wheels. You are correct that the tab should be used when placing for installation if possible. Once on the car, they are a bit more stable, as they cannot twist to the point that they come apart. They are difficult to weather and paint, so I typically use an airbrush. -Bob T.
Frankly, I have never used these new Kadee HGC self centering trucks. That's why they are all still in their package. They certainly look good. I stopped doing much active modeling around 2015 because of all the time we were spending in Florida, and the work we were doing to buy a new condo in Naples, sell the old condo in Naples, and sell the house in St Louis. In 2016, we had three closings and two moves. Whew! It will take me a bit to send all of you your trucks because I need to get some small boxes. In the meantime, if any of you are worried about this new design because of the comments posted above, I'll be happy to refund your payment. It's all still in PayPal. Frankly, though, I wouldn't worry much about a Kadee product. They have been putting these trucks on their new HO car releases for some time. K
I was not too concerned about Kadee, more as to my own modeling. I have been known to install something up-side-down. It's just me ! I am happy to learn, that it's not me.
Bob, if what I am getting, you must get the truck as close as you can, before pulling the tab. Sometime I would like to see one of those wrapped up like you do. Course the benefit is the appearance, they look so much nicer than the plastic. I used to put them on models I intended to enter into contest. I kinda dropped out of doing contest's. I have the advantage, most of those pieces of equipment, I know what they actually looked like. Wonder how they compare to the Tahoe's.
Craig, Don, Robert, Sherrel ..... I'm on the way to the post office with your Kadee couplers. Thanks for your purchase! K
Couplers? I hope not! By the time you return - your payment should be posted? I got sidetracked a couple days.
Miss Carla says we received ours Ken. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing them when I get home. Had my pituitary tumor removal surgery Friday morning and am currently in ICU, not totally unusual for this operation. Surgeons say the operation went very well.
