Lockwood, MO Coaling chute. 1911 Coaling chute and trestle at Lockwood, MO. 1911 Built 1902, 14 pockets and chutes - 7 each side, improved gravity type chutes of Underwood patent. The trestle featured 53 bents on concrete piers. The coal pockets and overhead building were over bents 43-50. The bents range in height from 3' to 33" at the coal pockets. Building over pockets was 78' x 17'. It was 17' high from ties to roof eves. Total length of track at the coaling facility was 721'-6" The coal chutes were retired in 1945. In 1946 a 50 ton replacement coaling facility was put up. Soon after the trestle was retired in 1946. Note the stock pen in the foreground of the first image. Thanks for the reply. Interesting. The 2nd and 3rd pics look dangerous. Looks like the outer columns are leaning. Kinda reminds me of an apartment house in St. Louis that had porches at every story held up by sticks like shown. During a party it failed and numerous folks lost their lives.
