612 & 617 are the steam-generator-equipped ones for your Sunnyland. 579 is a must-have. I had planned to do an Atlas GP-7 for 579. I gave that signal report for so many ham radio CW QSOs. I've already modeled 599!!!!

According to the Athearn website, they're due late October, 2019.

Heck. I don't even buy green bananas. Oct 2019? Oh well, gotta have 'em. Looks like I'll have to give up on the crunchy and go with smooth to save some coin.

Preordered locomotives #s 579, 594 and 617 today. Spring Creek Model Trains rep had the figures off the top of their head because "people have ordered a lot of them". :) Good for us.

I have to say that one of these boiler-equipped would be fun to have for Trains 20/21.

Kirwhizkid, thanks a ton for posting this. Does anyone know which of the multi stripe numbers would most likely have been out west (ie with the QA&P)?

    Thanks

  8. Not 100% sure these are public yet BUT since this is the group they will be sold to and I know your discretion, here is a little sneak peak of two pre-production units. Ken Patterson had these at his house to shoot pics for a future add. I kinda had to take some spy shots. They look nice. I know some of you are interested. Enjoy.

Nice paint and models... but wonder what's up with the odd stack extensions on the Frisco Geeps??

  11. Not sure what the thought is there Andre. Plus these are pre-production so they may not be what arrives. But of all the spark arresters the Frisco ran, that's nothing I ever saw.

They do seem a bit tall to me as well beaver pelt. I am wondering what scale and mfgr.

They look spot on as far as width but they seem too tall to me anyways. That is what looks like, between the as delivered and flared exhaust stacks.

  14. Yeah, to me the looked too tall and narrow for even the box type, They were plastic pieces not sure if they were from Athearn or aftermarket for these two. I have got other preproduction Athearn models from Ken in the past they have after market parts but then the real run has Athearn's own pieces.

I really like the paint, really looks good to me. I wish Athearn would bite the bullet and buy or make metal couplers. To put those cheap plastic couplers on such a great looking model cheapens it a bit. But that is just me.

LOL. I know so little about more modern stuff. Are there Athearn Genesis N scale items? I guess not at this point. LMAO.

Thanks, Steve. I have that MoP unit on order with four Frisco units since the Frisco and the MoP were both in Cape Girardeau.

Well, it should either have the standard EMD exhausts (as delivered), or the vertical boxes (mid-50s into the mid 60s), or the flared, or if assigned to the Fort Smith roundhouse, horizontal boxes (early 70s, two types). Those were the most common types aside for the anomalies such as barrel type/etc.

Perhaps being pre-production, they were rushed to the show and that is simply as they came from the incomplete molds. Typically, Athearn gets things closer to correct than that on their Genesis line, right?
