1291 was completely masked and painted today. I was so excited that I went back this evening to peel some tape and take a peek. I am very pleased with the results. Joe I do want to have some type of christening or celebration, but I am still a few months away at least. Need to install windows and paint interior and upholster the seats....and wire the caboose generatopr/lighting, and add the plumbing and all. I will get done at some point though. haha

Cloudy day makes a dark image, but I couldn't resist rolling her outside to have a look. Next order of business is the coonskin and correcting the stairs.

Thanks guys for the compliments, it makes me happy and proud. I just love working on this caboose and my original vision is starting to come to life. Very exciting to actually see the light at the end of the tunnel for 1291.

I love it Joe, Winslow tunnel for sure ! If I hustle it is entirely possible to have this project wrapped up by early summer. I hope I don't get sidetracked and lose steam ! haha. 1288 will be next. I want to restore her back to orange and white and run her with 1291 in the freight car color and they will be the Frisco sisters. Pipe dreams are entirely realistic ! LOL

Finally an opportunity for a sunny pic to bring out the true colors. I love it and sometimes have to pinch myself for having the opportunity to work on this project. Today we are sanding the interior in preps for paint. Some windows will be going back in next week too .

  15. like those new paints and clean cabooses too

windows are starting to go back in, fun to contrast the difference from 4 years ago. Notice the plated window on the left side, we were lucky to get the replacement window from caboose 1292.

Fantastic work, Paul!!! Definitely looks better than when you started, 1291 has a royal look to it now. Frisco is king of the rails and your caboose proves that.

The cold weather has brought the work on 1291 to a pause. I love to work on 1291, it is fun and rewarding but cold weather makes it more like work and less like fun. We had a really good 3 months from September to November and now I am going to wait on warm weather in spring to get back to work and get this caboose finsihed up. Next July she turns 50 and if we push really hard we can hopefully have a lot completed by then. Thanks everyone for the kind words and moral support it means a lot and makes this project more fun.
