Jerome, MO, MP 123.7 - Gasconade River, MP 123.3 - Eastern Division Closed Due To Flooding - 3/2008

Thats the only thing running right now that I have seen, in fact a rock train is sitting in town tonight, large shot rock in side dumps followed by a conveyor trainset full of ballast. They are setup in a push pull fashion, heading east loaded, back west empty. There is no telling how many tens of thousands of tons of rock they will end up using.

 

The GREX train past Kirkwood mid-afternoon was a conveyor train, but had no locomotives on the rear.

 

Current (5/5 report ) from BNSF shows the Cuba sub, the Thayer south sub, and the river sub between crystal city and Cape Girardeau as being out of service.

That is a significant portion of the Frisco....

Another day of loaded rock trains heading east.

 

Another loaded rock train went west on Tuesday morning. However, they must have been effective because the line appears open. Tuesday evening (5/9/17) the Tate & Lyle corn syrup train went westbound around 16:10. It was followed by the westbound local with the usual LP loads. Just a few moments ago a westbound (GALTUL?) went by with some military equipment and the usual coil steel loads.

 

Just got some news today... They're removing the bridge at Jerome and replacing it with a new one. Work is scheduled for April 16th next to the bridge, and switching traffic to the new bridge when work is completed. Expected completion date is summer 2018.

 

The FAX didn't say which side, but I can tell you for sure they're investing A LOT in this division. Crews were in St. James all day replacing ties beneath crossings and re-doing ballast throughout town.

 

Dumb question, but are you sure it's the rail bridge? From what I've heard Modot had plans to replace the concrete highway bridge across the tracks this year as well, just making sure.

Well shoot, you were right! I had to look back at the FAX to make sure I wasn't crazy, and it was the highway D bridge that goes above the tracks. Sorry for the false alarm.

 

There seems to be a lot of work going on the Rolla-Leabanon sub. About a month ago, they replaced an entire section of track beneath a crossing in St. James.

Now they're lining up a bunch of ties along with the tracks. They are also replacing the old searchlights at the Dillon siding with the newer LED signals.

(I wasn't really sure if I should make a new thread about this, so I'm just posting it here.)

 

They have just completed tie replacement followed by the usual line and surface on the north main track (welded rail) between Lindenwood and Valley Park. There remains no evidence on the ground of any plans to do anything with the South Main (jointed rail).

 

South main looks good. Both lines are in daily use when there is not some maintenance under way.
