We finally found an apartment in Broken Arrow that we are happy with and will be moving in on March 3rd. The spare room for the layout is larger than the previous room so I'm hoping to add a module for the bridge over the Arkansas River. I will take measurements when I go back to the apartment on Monday. As soon as I unpack my laptop I will start drawing the layout plans using the old plans as a reference. Stay tuned the layout is about to come to life again!!!

I went to our apartment Monday and measured the hobby room. The room turned out to be a little smaller than the one at our old apartment by a few inches. The new hobby room is 137 inches long and 130 inches wide (11'5" by 10'10"). Now if I could only find my laptop, it's in the middle of our storage unit. I didn't think that through when I was packing, LOL.

It's been a month since I've reported on my layout, far too long. Today I'm going to move the layout from storage to our apartment. Found my laptop about three weeks ago but haven't been able to do any drawing. It's time to go to work.

Well, it looks like my drawing days on my laptop are over. Yesterday I was working on the laptop and most of the drawing icons disappeared from the screen. Spent more than four hours trying to find them without any luck. I guess I will have to go back to drawing the layout on paper and colored pencils. Haven't had to do that since my Double Track Layout back in 2001. Now I have to find my drawing equipment!!!
    Oh No.

Joe sounds like you picked up a worm from a website or email link. Time to put a good antivirus system to work.

The laptop isn't connected to the internet Keith. It's about fifteen years old and has a history of strange things going on. I'm not that familiar with computer forensics so I may have to get an estimate to have it fixed. It is probably going to cost more than the laptop is worth. I'm not going to let it stop me from making progress on the layout though, I'll build the layout and then draw it later.

About a week ago I assembled the L-Girder supports for my layout. I'm working on loading modules and should be finished by Wednesday.

I purchased a Waco Depot the other day for my layout. Paid only two dollars for it, from Top Shelf Hobbies in Owasso, also purchased a N Scale magazine.

Could the depot be used as a section house in the yard of my layout? What kind of stuff would I find in the section house?

    Joe -
When I think of section house, I think of a dwelling used by section crews, track gangs, etc. Your structure's definitely a good candidate for a section tool house or motor car shed. If the latter, maybe remove the platform and foundation and drop it to track level.

Seems like a small tool bench to one end/corner, or an era-appropriate motor car would fit in it nicely. I have an old Durango Press hand car for my motor car shed. The hand cart's too old for my era ,but I'm bashing it into a flatbed trainer to be pulled behind a motor car.

    Best Regards,

    Thank you Chris!!!

I remember when my cousin and I were playing on the tracks we saw a tool shed on the Missouri Pacific mainline with barrels of spikes, tools, stack of ties and a pile of old ties. Seems like there was some tie plates also, I can't remember for sure. I particularly like your idea of a handcar.

I finally worked on my layout this afternoon by cutting four legs to size. Will assemble two L-Grider supports tomorrow morning and try to attach the legs after that. To determine how high I want my layout, I used my wife's old wheelchair and measured how high my eye level is, 48in. when seated. What I want is to have my eye level six inches above track level and the layout will be six inches high, giving a total of 12in.
I cut two 2x2x96in. boards 39 1/2in. long. This will set track level as 40in. above the floor.

At one time I was going to track level set for 53in. but decided to use my wife's wheelchair because I've been having trouble with my right leg, sometimes I can hardly walk and standing is even worse.
Have an appointment later in the month.

I know "baby steps". It's been a long time.

    Joe -
It just be contagious, I'm having leg trouble also. My right knee and upper calf hurt like the dickens. Was in the emergency room Wednesday night - no clots or calcification in the veins or arteries in either leg, so that is good. Seeing my doc on Monday.
    There's always something!

We're all falling apart, Oh No!!! Must be the water.

This afternoon I built the last L-Grider supports and got them connected together along with the legs. Now I have all three sets of L-Grider supports finished and they are ready to be assembled together, plus a few more anti-sway pieces.

Today's activity was bolt the two previously built L-Grider supports to the walls.

    IMG_20180520_214807.jpg IMG_20180520_214823.jpg

After that I started loading modules. From left to right, Module 03, 04 in the corner, 05 complete and Module 06. I'll have to cut Module 06 to a shorter length in order for Module 07, the other corner, to fit perfectly, hopefully it will be only four or six inches.
