Finished up some projects that have been on the back burner for awhile: the bi-level is an Accurail kit which is shown in the Molo book. This is the fourth Accurail I've built but the the first I didn't have to rearrange the post spacing to get what I wanted. The most obvious change is cutting off the posts even with the top deck. The upright cable posts are brass wire with a loop formed on top and then I used very thin brass wire for the cables so I could effect the sag of the cables. I had seen photos of the auto carrier and since these were the direct precursors to the auto racks and fit within my layout timeline I felt I needed a model of it. I had a plain-Jane Walthers 75' flat and to it I added grabs, stirrups, and Detail West hitches and bridge plates. I searched for a long time to find late '50-early '60 cars to make it a true Frisco haul but it wasn't meant to be. I decided to go with my favorite car ever to load the carriers. The haulers are from Sylvan Models and the 'Birds are from Paragon Models. . I always liked late 50's construction equipment and I wanted a "different" flat car load. This is another of the search in vain for models so I decided to build my own. I had some old Euclid brochures with dimensions so it was simply a matter of using styrene and wood to get what I wanted. Another Euclid book showed the bracing so it was a matter of getting a couple of flats to produce a couple of unique loads. Larry F.h
Steve, I don't have any. I get busy on the things (obsessed) and all of a sudden they're done and I'm thinking maybe I should have documented the project. I'll try to remember next time but it'll be awhile since I'm going to start the Lindenwood engine house...wish me luck! Larry
Well after I have finally ciffered the kit comes so you can design the pads the way you want, Jist started the paint shop on this model. Dare I ask, which is the best and air brush kit
