Can't wait to see what you do with an old GP7! If you would, please take the time to explain what your doing along the way, as we all learn from one another around here.
Thanks Tom. Will do for sure. Maybe someone can get some use from it. step 1 paint step 2 strip paint step 3 repaint HA at least it always seems that way....... I will take progress pics.
Ha! Good one. This is the procedure I followed once on an Athearn F7B dummy: step 1 - paint it o/w step 2 - admit the result was terrible step 3 - paint it black step 4 - decal it for a b/y no-stripe F7B step 5 - sell it cheap at the next swap meet. K
Here is another NON frisco project but belongs here by circumstance. This was from a set of decals I picked up out of Ken's yardsale. It is not 100% accurate because the decals are for a little older car but I picked up a bunch of these undecorated for cheap and they had some just letteres a little different. Like most this is headed to my dads basement. He had seen this RR on a trainchasing trip years ago and wanted one for the collection. Nothing too spectacular and not a real beater like I prefer. HA It was weathering subtly with chalk pastels on the sides and sills. and a little oil wash around the doors. The trucks are painted with acrylics then oil wash then pastels. Enjoy. Thanks again Ken! After it was cleared I noticed the hook in the decal to the right of the door and the U. Too late now! The roof was painted red oxide primer. Then sprayed with hairspray to look as though it is starting to peel. Then once dry the spots are picked away with a damp toothpick to look like peeling paint. It is a little more convincing than the rubber cement trick. The car is too new for a lot of rust but the peeling paint would eventually leave the primer and then the rust.
Steve - My pleasure! Glad you found a use for the decals. I bought them some time ago after reading an article on the A&LM somewhere. K
Well guys time to pollute this thread with another non FRISCO model. My apologies to the southeast southwest gods! I have been a fan of the Utah Belt for years like many model railroaders. Like Tom's modern QA&P it is fantasy run prototypically. That idea fascinates me. The Utah Belt has always sold off old power for new power. I have never seen anyone model where it might go if it were real. I figure some of the rough older units would end up at Larry's Truck and Electric. AKA Larry's Rent a Wreck. Here is my take on a "what if" with an Athearn RTR SD-50.... Enjoy, Steve
Never had a chance to visit the Utah Belt, but met its boss at Tinkertown once. Terrific concept and execution! K
Thanks!! Trust me lots of trial and error and plenty of bad error! HA I screwed up the cab on this so bad I had to buy a Cannon replacement and short hood. Costly blunder on my part.
Thanks Ken. UB is on the tour list for the RPM show this week so I hope we see it. My dad has been to his house to see it but I have not. I'll get back to some SLSF projects now.
Thank you Tom! Same back at you because I truly can not imagine 5,000 feet of track and it all running smooth. To me THAT is mad skills.
Both of YOU guys are like the "Dualing Banjos". Things lately have been a little slow, so, to me anyhoo -- I hope that BOTH of You keep on Keeping ON!
I got a couple quickies done recently. These were both acquired from Ken in the Florida move sale. The photbucket fiasco slowed me down. I have a lot of pics to repost now. Ugghh........... These were dedicated appliance cars. Some to the Columbus area I live in but this model is assigned to Louisville and I wasn't changing it. Here is FM switcher 270, they were usually in pairs in Tulsa and I have another to dirty up sometime.
