  1. I am a retired 'Rail' having completed a working career that spanned just over 50 years.
Looking forward to reading and possibly contributing to this website.

Charles, by all means Welcome Aboard! Did you spend time with the SP&S?

  5. All my time on the Pacific division was spent working out of the Seattle area which was GN & NP turf. SP&S territory was the Vancouver, Portland area and eastward toward Spokane.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Bet you knew old Marvin Balguard. What a guy

  8. I'm trying to place that name but can't seem to recall him. Can you give my brain a jump start? Did Marvin work on the Frisco or later, the BN?

He was the Roadmaster East of Seattle.

  10. OK, that fits. I do seem to recall the name now but never had/took the opportunity to meet him. I meet occasionally with some retired GN/NP/BN guys once a
month and will toss out the Balguard name next we meet.

Welcome to the group, Charles. I rather like your profile photo choice.

    Best Regards,

  12. Thanks Chris. The photo was at 19th St in Kansas City, Summer 1968.

  13. Last Wednesday I went to a monthly lunch attended by retired 'rails' from around the Seattle area. I asked a conductor
sitting next to me about Marvin Balgard (some question about the Scandinavian spelling). He remembered him and added that
he believes Marvin passed around 2002. Marvin had been the Everett roadmaster for many years. Sorry for the slow reply to your comment.

I worked with Marvin at Everett in the early 90s when they went back to Cascade Division. He was a great guy and Roadmaster.
