Welcome, Jim - what part of Mississippi do you currently call home? We have friends who are about as far south as one can get (Waveland, just a block or so north of the tracks that run parallel to the beach).

    Best Regards,

Bit too far south for me. I live on the TN state line near Corinth.

Ah yes, Corinth, Miss! On a 1958 trip to Florida, we stopped off in Corinth to get some lunch and saw the sign on the highway advising travelers Corinth was the home of Don "The Blazer" Blasingame, Cardinal second baseman of the time, and one of my favorite players - a decent hitter, good in the clutch, and a very good defensive player. Out in the field, he was constantly whistling. It was always uncertain if he was just doing that for the heck of it, or if it was some sort of defensive signal. I recall a 35mm slide my dad took of me standing in front of "The Blazer's" sign at the entrance to Corinth. That was a great trip to Florida, and the Corinth event was one of the highlights I still remember well.
Don threw right and batted left. He passed away in 2005. After the Cardinals, he also played with the Giants, Reds, Senators (Washington) and the Athletics (KC). I think he made the NL All-Star team a couple of times - Cardinals and Giants.

From one Jim to another, welcome aboard. Mississippi reminds me of pine trees and steam locomotives that lasted well after all others were gone.

Hate to say it but I have never heard of him although I now see a section about him on the Corinth city website. Much more of a Roscoe Turner fan who was also from Corinth. :)

Moved to Corinth in 1996, still feel like a new comer.
