Those of you with access to the Atlas catalog, take a look at the neat bridges they have just announced. A Frisco ("Frisco Lines" no less!) and a terrific looking MoPac "Route of the Eagles" are included among others. Ken
The Atlas artwork matches the Lansdowne Bridge in St Louis as seen below: It comes with Code 100 rail.
I went to the Boeing Employees swap meet today and picked up one of the Atlas bridges that mimics the lettering on the Lansdowne Ave. bridge. The most obvious difference is the model is a plate girder bridge and the prototype is a deck girder. On the prototype, the logos have 2 coonskins, one inside the other, while the model has only one. Someday I'd like to model the Wabash Ave. bridge and use the lettered panels for the part over the road. -Rich
Thanks for posting, Rich. If nothing else, I think the bridge, as is, would place one's layout and locale pretty quickly. Probably wouldn't take an excessive amount of cutting, pasting and cursing to kitbash into a deck girder if one wished to do so. Best Regards,
Here's a photo from 2006. One can still make out the word BIRMINGHAM peaking through the worn silver and black lettering. Apparently the railroads don't ever paint bridges anymore, which is a good thing in this case. Chris, one could use the sides by connecting them together and then building a deck on top. Wabash Ave. would require walkways and railings to be accurate. Rich
Although it is not an Atlas, these are Micro Engineering girders glued to the sub-roadbed. The letters where individually applied and the Frisco herald where 2 separate decals applied over one another, white background cut to coonskin outline then the other decal placed over it.
I know the BNSF is not doing this for our benefit, but it is really neat to see the big Frisco overpasses in St Louis still unpainted with both the "Frisco" and "Frisco Lines" logos evident! It brings back good memories. K

Here are some photographs of the Wabash/McCausland/Wellington Ave. bridge over the River Des Peres that geep07 was modeling. The lettering has faded almost completely but the coonskin is still detectable in these 2009 photos. Rich
