Has anyone attempted to model an E7 after they were remodeled to match the E8's? I think it would be an interesting and fun locomitve to model. Does any have any pointers? I do already have decals for it, it's just the removal of the square windows and addition with correct placement of the portholes that poses the most challenging task. Regards, John "Friscochoctaw" C.
Somewhere on the interweb there's a super picture of an Overland HO brass model done up as a Frisco E-7 remodeled to match the racehorse E-8's. Which could be a guide for such a project. Tom G.
I once "remodeled" an as-delivered E7 into a MoPac E7, which basically involved trading out the square windows for round portholes (though they are not positioned quite the same as they were when the Frisco did it, and the MP units did not have the stainless steel air intake grills). It's painstaking to re-do the windows, but it can be done if you're patient, Just go for it! GS
Okay, my next questions are: how/where do I get the portholes and what is a good method for removing the squared windows without doing irreversable damage to the shell?
Have you considered using an E-7 shell as the basic unit and then cutting out the car sides from another E-8 unit. You do need to keep the vertical co0ling fixture right behind the E-7 cab doors. There are times that you can find old Model Power E units at meets. Tony LaLumia
As I recall, the one I saw in Springfield was made the way Tony suggests. Started with an E7 body shell, and had most of the sides replaced with parts from an E8 shell. I have a Model Power E7 here somewhere. One could also, of course, buy a P2K E7. Got to get the right number boards though. Ken
I have recently purchased two P2k E7's on the low from eBay. One I will turn into an as delivered Texas Special unit, but the other into the unit of inquiry. Would it be plausible to trim down a couple of sets of the highliner F7 kit portholes?
I am preparing to do two of them in O scale using wiliams E7 body shells, filing in the windows and using the porthole sets formerly made by Keil line, now made by Scale City Designs who bought the old Keil Line and is now producing the Keil line parts. I plan to buy the horizontal grilles sold by P & D Hobbies for the grilles. I have all the parts, I just need to get started which is being held up by an impending move to Alabama.
