Wow, Charlie, I am sorry to hear that. If it has been posted here somewhere I have missed it. My heart and prayers go out to you and your wife. Hopefully she can be released soon.

On October 31st. I will be having surgery on my right ankle again. This is just an out patent surgery to remove a screw. It is causing me to not being able to walk because of the pain. I'm really excited to get this ankle injury over with, it's been 15 weeks since I broke it.

It's 2017 now and I will celebrate my Golden Anniversary in railroad modeling, 50 glorious years!

I started with an O-27 non-scale train set and a small four unit HO train set in 1967. A lot has happened over the years and I believe the most important changes has been the switch from HO to N scale in 1984 and collecting Frisco N scale equipment since 1998. I now have 256 N scale items, 135 being Frisco.

Cynthia purchased a N scale Santa Fe passenger train set for my birthday in 1984 with the money from her last maternity paycheck.

Joe, congrats on the anniversary. I wish I'd kept track of when I started. I can approximate - it was Christmas day for certain - but I'm hoping the photos my parents took still had the photo developing date stamp on the back of the prints.

I sometimes wish I'd switched to N scale but I'm now too set in my ways and too visually impaired to want to switch now to a smaller scale.

Thank you, Chris! I remember when I got my trains because my mom, dad and I were making a move fromNeosho, MO to the Tulsa, OK area, Catoosa to be exact. My late Uncle from Albuquerque was making the switch from HO to N scale so he gave me some of his HO equipment. It was an AEC 44 ton switcher, flatcar with a rocket, Western Pacific boxcar and a Pennsylvania bobber caboose. I still have the train. My mom and dad gave me a 4x8 sheet of plywood for my birthday and that was the first attempt at building a layout.

You may be able to narrow down your first train pretty close if you can remember what else was going on in your life.

Charlie, I'm having problems with TrainBoard because I can't start a new thread to sell some of my freight cars and I'm not able to "Like" another members post or photos.

Please help me on this matter.

I'm able to walk now, just small steps to the kitchen and bathroom but it's a start.

Cynthia, that is good news. Rehab can seem slow at times, but it is extremely important to heal properly.

We are in a hot spell here in the Tulsa area, it was 98 degrees today and tomorrow is going to be 99 with Saturday and Sunday 100 degrees. Sizzling hot!!! The photo below was taken on Tuesday July 10, 2018 at 10:20pm and broadcasted by KJRH a local NBC TV station. Since Tuesday they have updated the forecast for Friday to 99, Saturday 100 and Monday to 101. Our record is 116 degrees about 20 years ago and the record low was -16 set several years ago.

Sounds like a good time to do some layout work, Joe.

Wow... -16 for the record low in July? Now THAT would be SOME record.

Hear 'ya on the heat headed our way. Here in Poteau "Hell Hole", OK, we're looking at temps over 100 degrees. Heat indices up around 105 or so. Hot, for sure, but not what our region (good ol' OK) is capable of. Here a few years ago (was it 2014?) Fort Smith had an all-time record high of 115 degrees. I was working FSSW2 that day. (Fort Smith Switcher 2.) Of course, Alco's made in the early-mid sixties typically aren't equipped with A/C. That was one of the most miserable days I had to endure in all my railroading. Cab temps are typically 10-15 degrees hotter than the ambient temp, so the cab was something like 125 - 130 degrees. Unfun.

Now that I'm retired (my first summer as a retiree)... I don't see how I used to take that heat!

  20. It has been miserably hot here in Ohio this summer too. 90+ for days. We have not had rain in 3 weeks other than about 30 minutes of storms one night.
