Howdy folks, A friend is modeling Frisco in O scale and hasn't been able to find a RTR O scale loco that fits Frisco prototypes. He especially likes the 1400 class ten wheeler, but isn't picky. Does anyone know of an O scale Frisco steamer that is not too far off the prototype? Perhaps the Frisco.org folks can help. Happy rails, Mike C
Is this person a Lionel or MTH etc. modeler? Or a true to scale or Proto 48 guy. If he's scale, brass might be the way to go. Just my opinion, I'm an N scaler and don't really have any O expertise. Tom G.
Thanks for the response, Tom. He is an O scaler, not O gauge (aka, Lionel). I've suggested brass and he said something about both kidneys... ~mike c
The only O scalers that I know are the famous Jim Eudaly, and Keith Jordan, both local KC guys. For steam, it seems brass is the only option according to them but they had no suggestions regarding near-Frisco models.
Hi Mike, I am getting into O scale and have a few of the old varney/all nation 4-6-0's and the boiler shape is simular to some of the Frisco ten wheelers but I need to compare the measurements to be sure I can transform one into a Frisco.
Contact Ted Schnepf, in Elgin, IL. He is THE O-scale bigfoot in the Chicago area and is a hobby retailer on the side. Mention that I said to call. His number is (847) 697-5353 and his web site is http://railsunlimited.ribbonrail.com/ Good Luck! Greg Stout Cape Girardeau, MO
All modeler's should follow the link Greg posted. There are some photos of some exquisite freight car models on the hobby shop site and their club's site. Tom G.
There are brass models of USRA Mikes that could be modified to closely represent the 4000s, and there are brass models of Russian Decopods which could be easily decaled to become a 1600. Just about everything else would have to be scratched or accepted as "close enough."
