I just received notice from Ed Hawkins & Pat Wider that their next issue of RPCyc, RPCyc Volume 24, will be available the first week of April.

The topics are of interest to us, at least one of them:

o PRR X29 box cars and X28 automobile cars. (Well, I'm interested!)

o Rebuilt USRA Double-sheathed box cars, including those rebuilt by the SLSF. (Other roads: ACL, ATSF, C&WC, CNW, CMO, CRI&P, DL&W, DT&I, EJ&E, GTW, KCS, NYC; a total of 9,952 cars, including the SLSF's)

    FYI.

Wish they'd "do" some more passenger cars! Their first couple of editions had Pullman heavyweight info.

    Re: RP Cyc

Tom - I'm glad to see the next RP Cyc (vol 24) at least touches the Frisco! Most of the RP Cyc volumes have some Frisco content, but not the last several.

Ed and Pat are giving us some great reference material though!

    Ken,

The RP CYC is probably one of the best prototype magazines out there today, glad to hear the next issue will have some Frisco in it. BTW I think there is more than just two PRR junkies here, as John Sanders follows it as well.

    Re: RP Cyc

In some earlier issues they did some nice articles on express cars. I think most all their issues are still available if you'd want to pick up some back copies. They also did a nice one on F-3 diesels. http://rpcycpub.com/

My favorite RP Cyc issue remains volume 4, with Richard Hendrickson's terrific article on freight car trucks.

    Terry -

They are a great reference. Volumes 2,3,4,5,6,7,9 and 20 are sold out. All the others are available, and volume 24 will be out early April.

Volume 1 would be a good one to start with, as it had several Frisco topics in it.

FYI, I received my copy of RP Cyc 24 today when I picked up our mail after return from Kansas.

I've not read it yet, but from the many pictures, there is very good coverage of the Frisco's rebuilt USRA double sheathed box cars, including the tan "FFF" cars.

There also is an excellent article on the PRR X29 and X28 box and auto cars. Looks like a good issue!

FYI, I just received my copy of RP Cyc #25 today. Another nice issue put together by my friends Ed Hawkins and Pat Wider.

Pat has a nice article on the Santa Fe's Bx-34, Bx-37 and Bx-43 40-ft AAR box cars. These were seen on the Frisco often. Pat's article does a nice job of showing all the different ATSF slogans and maps that these cars carried.

Ed has another nice installment, the 7th, on the AAR Standard 50-ton, 2-bay hopper cars. He included two nice b/w Frisco pics, SLSF 90849 and SLSF 91921, both in their as-delivered paint schemes (90849 was black, 91921 red oxide). If you ever wanted to know anything about these very popular hopper cars, Ed's series in RP Cyc is for you!

Somehow I overlooked yesterday's post, Bill - pretty bad when an Admin still has difficulty using either alerts and/or recent posts options. Do you or others have the link handy for the direct order site?

    Best Regards,

I've learned that RP CTC volume 33 is going to be all color photos by photographer Dick Kuelbs. He was well known for shooting passenger and head end cars, especially at Dallas. I can't wait...

RP CTC "bookazines" are large magazine size soft cover books, usually with several long articles about one type or another of railway equipment. The articles more recently have been about freight cars. I'm looking forward to volume 33 because I'm a passenger car buff and I'm familiar with Dick Kuelbs' photography. RP CYCs have LOTS of photos of prototype and model equipment. Also included are modeling and super detailing tips and critiques of manufactured and imported models. There's usually a treasure trove of information in each article on what ever model or prototype they cover. The issues are kinda pricy but worthwhile if they cover something that the reader is interested in.
