The Railroad Historical Museum, Inc. in Springfield, MO is making progress in our endeavor to add a replica rural railroad depot. The address at Grant Beach Park is 1401 North Grant Avenue, Springfield, MO 64802. Please see the following Springfield-Greene County Park Board web site. https://www.parkboard.org/263/Railroad-Historical-Museum After looking at numerous floor plans, etc. and comparing them with our pocket book, we settled on a plan similar to the Fordland, MO and Elsinore, MO depots. Since they are very similar except in size, our finances dictated the Elsinore, MO depot. Fordland is in nearby Webster County, MO. We now have an architect's rendering plus the elevation drawings. Financing is progressing well and we feel we are approximately 80% financed. Our project will come under several requirements including prevailing wages, ADA requirements, storm water runoff and other considerations including working with our landlord, the Greene County Park Board. Pictures of the rendering and elevations drawings can be forwarded separately, upon request, and may be added here in the near future. Any ideas, suggestions, help with funding, past experiences with this type project will be appreciated. Joe Edit 1/21/2024: Added location address and web site link. MKD
I've finally come up with those pictures mentioned in my last post! Planning for the depot. And a neat flyer!
Bids closed Thursday October 26, 2015 covering construction. We have a "Shovel Ready Project" but bids from contractors exceeded what we had anticipated. We are still in the fundraising process. A donor today said he will match any funds we can come up with before Nov. 17, 2015. All donations and suggestions will be appreciated. Joe G. Felin Vice President The Railroad Historical Museum, Inc.
Along the same lines as the last post, we finally got our fundraising campaign set up! Donations can be given here, via the good folks at the Community Foundation of The Ozarks. https://causemomentum.org/projects/railroad-historical-museum-replica-depot Any assistance is appreciated!
Dan, we need your donation like a dead man needs a coffin. Our guru, a student at Ozarks Technical College (OTC), is handling your request via Matt, with causemomentum.com. Some donations have been made but do not show up where we think they should. This will also be addressed this workweek. Thanks in advance for your interest & generosity. Joe
Below is a link to a news story in regards to the progress on the depot. Enjoy. http://www.ky3.com/content/news/Pla...pot-for-Grant-Beach-Park-train-375961611.html
New temporary fence installed May 13, 2016. This will permit disabling and moving the park light, the next objective. Then it will be "all clear" for digging and pouring replica depot foundation.
Hey Joe, I went up their this last weekend. Great display, this is a good reason to contribute for the Frisco. Course my grandfather helped put the engine in the Grant Beach Park, so I am a little bias. My wife's Grandfather worked on the track, for the street cars, her father worked for FTC. My grandfather's brothers all worked for the Frisco. So thanks for all you do.
Sorry I missed you. Usually I am pretty busy monitoring the kids who like to write their names on the teletype machine and take a hard copy plus the tape. Mothers Day many wrote Mom, I love you or similar messages.
