Built during 1930 by VB&I Co., 52 of these cars were the source for the Frisco's 4000-4051 series Wall-Board Bulk Head Flats, which were built by the Frisco in 1952, 1953, 1956, and 1958. See also http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/4000-4051-wall-board-bulk-head-flat.4359/
Anyone know the type of ends on 60053 that Bob posted? They don't appear to be the dreadnaught ends as indicated in Karl's drawing. Best Regards,
Chris, they look like the illustrations to me. Additionally, based on the positioning of the brake wheel, I would surmise that they are drop ends.
The mechanical designation GB says the cars have fixed sides and ends, at least according to the NMRA OPSIG's list of AAR mechanical designations ( http://www.opsig.org/pdf/AARFreightCarCodes.pdf ) Paul
Apparently I did not read closely enough. In 1932, GB cars had fixed ends... In 1958, they could have fixed or drop ends. Paul
Thanks, Keith. Upon closer review, I think that what I was seeing in the drawing as a "raised" dart was actually the recessed portions, and vice-versa. I really need my daughter to nag me a few more times to get my eyes checked. Best Regards,
Neat photo, Keith. Are those acetylene tanks by the drop-end? It has a rather company-service look to it, but with the original number. I'm also still trying to figure out the road on the caboose just behind. Best Regards,
Chris it looks as if the car and caboose are part the Gold Coast Museum. Note Keith's previous post in this thread. The gon has expanded steel mesh fabric for ends with a wood gangway( being held vertical by rope) for walking between cars.
