Here is a thread on modifications to a torpedo boat GP35 model as mentioned earlier on this thread.

    http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/gp-35-torpedo-boat-modification.5574/page-2

The modifications do not start until page 2 of the thread.

Your O scale project sounds good, not too many folks have that in O scale I bet.

Can you get the air tanks in O scale?

There is a lot of interesting information and background from several members on the prototype.

I really enjoyed the whole project.

  6. You bet John.

My dad gets the credit for taking I just shared.

Luckily he has never been afraid to push the boundaries of railfanning with a camera. HA

Loved the black & yellow GP35s. Reminds me of Darth Vader!

I remember seeing a few of them before I graduated from MSM in May, 1964. They were new looking, nice and shiny. Did not stay that way long.

I had one of the Overland black and yellow torpedo tube models, definitely Darth Vaderish!

Would pull anything you hooked it up to. It now works on either Jerry's or Steve Hurt's roster.

The mandarin orange and white paint scheme made the torpedo boats look too gentle, too civilized!

Here is a photograph of GP35s SLSF 700 and SLSF 729 I took years ago at the Helm Road overpass just west of Dixon, MO.

Steve, your Dad did a superb job of documenting, especially for something inaccessible and in an era where he couldn’t just snap hundreds of photos and then delete the undesirable image files.

Thanks a bunch for sharing with us.

I built a model of one of these once using an Athearn "wide-body" GP35.

Cannot for the life of me remember what I did with it though.

  12. Glad you like them Chris.

Hard to believe now that we used to plan the 24 or 36 pictures you would want the most, then wait to see what you actually got when they were developed and printed.

I did the same Greg, I built black and yellow GP35 SLSF 713 out of an old blue box. I do not really think it looks too bad once they are detailed.

I also built one that was Mandarin orange and white when I was really young. I thought it was really something at the time. But, not so much now. HA They are not as noticeable as the GP9 they offered was.

Funny the disposition of yours is a mystery.
