Re: Maplewood (originally a dormatory-coach,converted to a coach

It was nice that this thread "popped" to the surface again. I had overlooked this thread in previous visits.

The sharply-curved track and the structure on the left of this image are dead give aways. The train is 102, The Southland, and it is passing the Kansas City Terminal RR roundhouse, which just appears at the photo's left. Southwest Blvd lies on the other side of the train. At this point the train is in Missouri, and only minutes away from KCUS.

In all the time I've known the car was there, I've never seen a sign on the scrap yard.

I can tell you this is next door to a body shop on Division In Springfield that specializes in corvettes.

    Railway Post Office 251 "Normandy"

Here's another photo of RPO 251, named "Normandy" taken at the National Museum of Transport in Kirkwood MO in June, 1982 by Rich Lawler.

    Re: Modeling P-S Streamlined Cars

A friend in the Annapolis area (Dr. Logan Holtgrewe) modeled the similar KCS cars using brass sides on scratch-built bodies. The observation car had to be totally scratch built.

  9. Hello,

Last week at school I got a used(but good looking) plain white drumhead from my bass drum at school. This is just a project for my train room, but I was wanting to paint it and put a coonskin sticker on it. Then I got the idea to make it look like a passenger car drumhead for the Meteor. Dose anyone have pictures of such a drumhead if one exists/existed??? Thanks for any info.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

I believe there's a Firefly drumhead here someplace on this chat board. I'll see if I can find it. The Firefly drumhead is round, but the streamline Meteor and Texas Special drumheads were square with rounded corners.

Here is the Firefly drumhead, and according to the All Aboard, December 91, Vol6 No4, here is the Meteor Drumhead in B&W. The Meteor Drumhead is described as having a white background with blue herald and lettering and red stripes which would make it look like the Firefly Drumhead.

Not the worst reproduction I've ever seen.

  15. Thanks alot. I'll start work on it when school gets out. Dose anyone know if there is a nice sized coonskin sticker in blue anywhere? I have an old Lamp with a busted base in the shed I make take the lighting equipment and make my drumhead light up. This is looking to be a cheap but nice looking project.
    thanks again

  16. I just thought I would pass on the word. On Ozark Mountain Railcar's Parts page( www.omrparts.com ) an original set of Frisco letterboards from one of the streamlined cars is for sell. This is the long peice of aluminum letterboard that says "FRISCO" on the side of the car. They want over $1000 for them though. Also if you check though the parts section there are chairs, end tables, waitor jackets, and other stuff from Frisco passenger cars. I am in no way connected to Ozark Mountain Railcar, I just thought I'd spread the word.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

P.S. I still haven't finished my drumhead kit :( Senior year and upcoming college has stolen most my time

    Re: Ferguson #1254

Instead of a member paying $1000 for a letterboard how about the organization starting an equipment fund to use for the purchase and restoration of Frisco locomotives, passenger, freight cars or cabooses?

Model Railroading is Fun to quote the old Model Railroader slogan, but putting $100 into an equipment fund would be much more rewarding than purchasing a plastic diesel or steam locomotive in any scale. Having your name on a restored piece of authentic Frisco equipment would be Fun Fun Fun for every member to enjoy!

Unfortunately, my home town namesake RPO does not look that good today.
